Summary

In the summer of 1939 the outbreak of World War II casts a shadow over Lallie's life. Neil brings home a Polish pilot, Jan Kalinski, to spend a Yorkshire Christmas with them and Lallie falls in love with him. The two marry and Lallie spends the duration of the war fearing that Jan will be killed.
