Officially approved by the Standards and Effectiveness Unit at the DfEE and supporting the national literacy strategy training materials, the activity resource banks provide practical teaching exemplars linked to a selection of specific objectives in the National Literacy Framework. Fully photocopiable ideas for the teacher to exploit in whole class, group and plenary sessions act as models that teachers can adapt. The activities will be useful for all teachers regardless of whether they are incorporating the Literacy Hour in schools. Module 6 includes activities which highlight how different text types are structures and defines their uses; develop early information retrieval skills; help differentiate between fact, fiction, opinion etc.; and offer practical support in learning how to take notes.
