French flower painter Pierre-Joseph Redoute is regarded as one of the best of the botanical illustrators in the tradition of aristocratic patronage stretching back to the Renaissance. Between 1817 and 1824 he completed the three volumes of Les Roses, some of which is reproduced in this work.
