The archives of the World Press Photo Foundation offer a history of the world over four decades, as seen through the eyes and cameras of international photojournalists. Every year since 1955 an international jury has met in Holland to choose the year's finest press photographs. This new book presents 200 of the best images from that collection, therefore reviewing the key stories of the past 40 years through photographs taken by some of the world's most talented photojournalists - Robert Capa, Robert Doisneau, Annie Leibovitz, Mary Ellen Mark, Steve McCurry and Sebastio Salgado, among others. In his introduction, photographer Richard Avedon discusses the role of photojournalism, the function of news reporting, and the different ways in which reporters intrepret their world.
