The book is based on 6 years of doctoral research by the author, involving a pilot study of children who soiled, a research study of soiling children, as well as post-doctoral involvement with other children and their families with soiling problems. This book is written in collaboration with Dr Graham Clayden, Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at St Thomas's Hospital in London. Dr Clayden advised the author during the original study. They have since been involved in joint work with soiling children and their families. The author's original research project involved 66 soiling children. This included a study of soiling children treatment by a local paediatric department, and further study of soiling children treated by a traditional child psychiatric clinic, and finally a study of soiling children treated by an experimental \"whole child\" approach which sought to incorporate treatment of the psychological, physical and social aspects of the problem. The author, a behaviourally trained social worker, was the key therapist, working under medical supervision. The research validated the benefits of an integrated \"whole child\" approach for soiling problems. The book is designed both for the busy professional, who wants in the shortest possible time, to assimilate the essentials of the \"whole child\" approach for assessing and treating the soiling child, as well as for those practitioners who require a more comprehensive research resume. To meet the differing needs of readers, the book is therefore in 4 parts. Part 1 includes an extensive review of international literature on the subject, covering both causation theories and treatment studies. Part 2 is the practical part of the book; how to assess the \"whole child\" and his family, and the treatment and management of the problem, using the \"whole-child\" approach. Part 2 stands on its own and will give the busy professional the basic information he needs to help a soiling child and his family. For those who wish to know more, Part 3 takes a wider look at the associated problems of soiling children. In this section Dr Clayden has written an important chapter on neurological disorders associated with soiling. There is also a chapter on the relationship between soiling and sexual abuse. Finally the Afterword looks at the wider implications from the research and suggests ways of setting up specific services for the soiling child.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49546725425425,"sku":"GOR002153424","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49554414534929,"sku":"GOR002642590","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52933219844369,"sku":"GOR014660082","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53143649779985,"sku":"GOR012723868","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0471934798.jpg?v=1750845860"},{"product_id":"parenting-schooling-and-children-s-behaviour-book-ann-buchanan-9781840145564","title":"Parenting, Schooling and Children's Behaviour","description":"Brings together some of the key findings in parenting and educational programmes from researchers at the University of Oxford, working in primary health care, educational studies, clinical psychology and applied social studies. At a time of considerable changes in family life and society in general, there is concern that some children are not achieving their potential because of emotional and behavioural difficulties. This book looks across the health, education and social divide and highlights what we know and what we don't know about effective strategies in helping children and their parents overcome their difficulties. Each chapter is written by a different member of the centre at Oxford for Research into Parenting and Children and is based on their research.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49631196381457,"sku":"GOR012422472","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1840145560.gif?v=1751184751"},{"product_id":"brothers-and-sisters-book-ann-buchanan-9783030559847","title":"Brothers and Sisters","description":"This edited volume presents unique insights on sibling relationships in adulthood in the early 21st century, focusing on three themes: relations beyond childhood and school years; factors shaping social support provision between siblings; and changes in family life and how these impact sibling relations. Comprised of chapters from distinguished international family scholars, this book examines sibling dynamics across age, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, geography, and social environments. It answers important questions such as, to what extent do siblings support each other at different stages of the life cycle? How do cultural practices and family obligations impact on sibling support? How does sibling support differ when looking at surrogates, migrant families, polygamous families, and siblings with disabilities? These contributions expand and contribute greatly to the field of sibling studies and will be of interest to all students and scholars studyingand researching family relationships.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52138540597521,"sku":"NLS9783030559847","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030559847.jpg?v=1757563456"},{"product_id":"grandfathers-book-ann-buchanan-9781137563378","title":"Grandfathers","description":"This is the first book to bring together international scholars from around the world and from a wide variety of disciplines, to discover what is known about grandfathers and analyse the impact of close involvement with their grandchildren. Within the context of increased divorce rates, single parent families and healthier, more active elders, grandfathers have come out of the shadows and re-invented themselves in a new caring, nurturing role. These original studies demonstrate that grandfather involvement is independently and positively associated with higher levels of child well-being in the UK and South Africa, as well as in Arab and Israeli teenagers, and pre-school children in England. The chapters conclude that societies could benefit from encouraging more grandfathers to become actively involved in their grandchildren’s lives and argues the case for grandparent visitation rights in those countries that currently do not have them.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52150364569873,"sku":"NLS9781137563378","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781137563378.jpg?v=1757609869"},{"product_id":"cycles-of-child-maltreatment-book-ann-buchanan-9780471958895","title":"Cycles of Child Maltreatment","description":"Although most families do not repeat the patterns of abuse of their childhood, there is evidence that, for whatever reason, substantial numbers do. This book explores continuing intergenerational cycles of child maltreatment and the controversies that surround the theories, focusing mainly on physical abuse, neglect, and emotional abuse, rather than sexual abuse. Examining the facts and the fallacies permeating the international literature, the author suggests that in intergenerational child maltreatment, there may not be just one cycle, but four separate cycles: sociopolitical factors; recurring cultural patterns; psychological factors; and biological factors. Interventions need to be focused on each cycle independently to attempt to break the cycle of child maltreatment. Ann Buchanan draws on her wide range of both academic and research experience in this field, as well as on her clinical experience, to bring together both the theories and research in the mechanisms of transmission, and the practical aspects of interventions. The book is easily accessible with clear summaries and will prove an excellent introduction to all those working with children and families.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52335419392273,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52335419949329,"sku":"NLS9780471958895","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780471958895.jpg?v=1758159966"},{"product_id":"brothers-and-sisters-book-ann-buchanan-9783030559878","title":"Brothers and Sisters","description":"This edited volume presents unique insights on sibling relationships in adulthood in the early 21st century, focusing on three themes: relations beyond childhood and school years; factors shaping social support provision between siblings; and changes in family life and how these impact sibling relations.
