With three presidentially declared disasters, nearly every county in the state of Indiana was directly affected. A goal for the book is to help other communities prepare for and recover from disaster. Bartholomew County was not prepared for the flood. The majority of Watershed focuses on Columbus as a case study for coping with disaster without the benefit of a pre-established response and recovery plan. Columbus has learned and will be prepared for future disaster situations. The key learning from the flood recovery and improvements to our local community are also discussed. After failing to find available resources on the subject of local disaster recovery, I felt God call me to write Watershed. I was at a unique place in my life because my employer, Columbus Regional Hospital, was closed for four months due to the flood and allowed me to pursue my passion of flood recovery during that time. The research from the book includes extensive coverage from the Columbus newspaper The Republic, minutes that I took as Secretary of the Bartholomew County Long Term Flood Recovery Team, and over 40 recorded interviews. I interviewed flood-affected individuals, leaders of nonprofit agencies, and members of the Indiana Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (INVOAD). The book highlights 17 nonprofit leaders whose organizations played a key role in recovering from the 2008 disasters. From the proceeds of Watershed, I will donate 90% of the net profits to these organizations. The 17 essays in the book add variety and depth to a disaster recovery that requires more than one perspective to accurately convey the complexity of the experience.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49958842630417,"sku":"CIN022677595XVG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51000234737937,"sku":"NIN9780226775951","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51695055700241,"sku":"CIN022677595XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/022677595X.jpg?v=1750940878"},{"product_id":"man-who-broke-reality-book-philip-ball-9780349136547","title":"The Man Who Broke Reality","description":"'A true tour de force. A fresh, authoritative, meticulously researched and utterly engaging examination of arguably the deepest thinker of the twentieth century' Jim Al Khalili  'Philip Ball is a terrific writer' Adam Rutherford, Guardian  Danish physicist Niels Bohr was one of the greatest scientists of the twentieth century.  He won the Nobel Prize in 1922 for his revolutionary contribution to quantum theory.  He was engaged in a lifelong intellectual duel with Einstein - and modern experiments have vindicated his view.  During the Second World War, he debated with Werner Heisenberg in Copenhagen about his former student's work on the Nazi atomic bomb.  He escaped Nazi-occupied Denmark and was welcomed by Robert Oppenheimer to the Manhattan Project to build the atom bomb.   He campaigned tirelessly for international arms control during the Cold War.  He was a prime mover behind the establishment of CERN, the centre for nuclear physics in Switzerland.  The Man Who Broke Reality, by acclaimed science writer Philip Ball, is a compelling portrait of one of the twentieth century's most inventive and iconoclastic thinkers - a scientist whose insights continue to shape our understanding of the universe and our place within it.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52503907041553,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52503907205393,"sku":"NGR9780349136547","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780349136547.jpg?v=1779962017"},{"product_id":"man-who-broke-reality-book-philip-ball-9780349136578","title":"The Man Who Broke Reality","description":"After Einstein and Oppenheimer, Niels Bohr was the most influential physicist of the 20th century. He was the central figure in the development of quantum mechanics (contra Einstein with whom he clashed). Due to his Jewish ancestry he had to escape from his native Denmark during the Second World War and ended up working on the Manhattan project to build an Atomic bomb for America, a programme run by Robert Oppenheimer who idolised him. This first popular biography tells his remarkable life story, including what really happened in 1943 in Copenhagen when he famously challenged his former student Werner Heisenberg for working on the Nazi atomic bomb, and lucidly explains his revolutionary scientific ideas.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52503938269457,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52503938367761,"sku":"NGR9780349136578","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780349136578.jpg?v=1778147889"},{"product_id":"cuantica-que-significa-la-teoria-de-la-ciencia-mas-extrana-book-ball-philip-9788417141554","title":"Cuántica: Qué significa la teoría de la ciencia más extraña","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53601135395089,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53601135526161,"sku":"GOR014976131","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9788417141554.jpg?v=1779886219"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/author-books-by-ball-philip.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
