Ein solches erfordert neben einer ideologiefreien Herangehensweise insbesondere auch die Betrachtung der islamischen Geschichte im Rahmen einer historischen Sozialwissenschaft. Islamforschung muss mehr sein als eine Auseinandersetzung mit Theologie und Philologie, und kolonialistische Sichtweisen auf Muslime - gleich, ob negativ oder positiv - sind weder wissenschaftlich noch sinnvoll.
