She decides to drive down the street where she grew up in Mineola before catching her plane back to California. There, in front of her childhood home, she sees a work crew who are just about to cut down the tree she played in as a little girl. On a whim, Carly shimmies up the tree and settles into the branches telling all who will listen that she plans to stay there until the City Council abandons plans to destroy the trees in order to widen the road. With the help of an old high school boyfriend and her cousin, Carly chains herself to the tree and makes it her home for weeks during her protest to save the environment.
