An insider's narrative about Springsteen fans -- who they are, what they do, and why they do it -- it is also about the phenomenon of fandom in general. The text moves back and forth between fans' stories and ideas and the author's own anecdotes, commentary, and analysis. Cavicchi argues that music fandom is a useful and meaningful behaviour that enables people to shape identity, create community, and make sense of the world.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49528957403409,"sku":"GOR003617981","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50470149095697,"sku":"CIN0195125649G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52401162682641,"sku":"NLS9780195125641","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53050194264337,"sku":"CIN0195125649VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":53390190182673,"sku":"CIN0195125649A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0195125649.jpg?v=1776766986"},{"product_id":"tramps-like-us-book-daniel-cavicchi-9780195118339","title":"Tramps Like Us","description":"Based on three years of ethnographic research with Bruce Springsteen fans, and informed by the author's own experiences as a fan, Tramps Like Us is an interdisciplinary study of the ways in which ordinary people form special, sustained attachments to Bruce Springsteen and his music and how those attachments function in people's daily lives to create meaning, shape identity, and create community. In a series of interconnected stories, American studies scholar Daniel Cavicchi focuses on the impact of industrialization, urbanization, and commercialization in shaping practices of music audiences in America. Grounding our contemporary culture of listening in its seminal historical moment-before the iPod, stereo system, or phonograph-Cavicchi offers a fresh understanding of the role of listening in the history of music.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50364089762065,"sku":"CIN0819571628G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51892883390737,"sku":"GOR008537199","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0819571628.jpg?v=1750979517"},{"product_id":"admirers-fanciers-and-devotees-book-daniel-cavicchi-9783662729243","title":"Admirers, Fanciers and Devotees","description":"This book offers the first multidisciplinary perspective on the formation and practices of fandoms before the term 'fan' was borrowed from the world of sport to describe enthusiastic filmgoers in the 1910s. The focus is on nineteenth-century theatre, opera and literature, where fannish audiences were indispensable participants in the emerging cult of celebrity surrounding actors, opera singers and writers, although their presence was almost obscene and consequently rarely acknowledged in scholarship. Drawing on the insights of Fandom studies, the articles in this volume add the necessary dimension of fannish audiences to the history of the performing arts and literature since at least the eighteenth century, as a counterpart to the development of stage and literary celebrities.    On the other hand, the contributions also broaden the perspective of the flourishing field of Fandom Studies, which has a predilection for fan cultures from the 1960s onwards (and especially for digital fan cultures). Therefore, one of the main questions will be how historical forms of fandom can actually be researched methodologically, e.g. by drawing on historical ethnography. In addition, such an extension of the 'era of the fan' to the two centuries before the 20th century requires a discussion of the semantic fields from which the terminologies for describing fannish behaviour were borrowed before the breakthrough of the term 'fan'.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53339115684113,"sku":"NGR9783662729243","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783662729243.jpg?v=1774394924"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/author-books-by-daniel-cavicchi.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
