This work is the product of over thirty years of unrelenting labour. It is a work of such unique greatness that, since its first appearance almost 150 years ago, it has remained to this day supreme in the field of Arabic lexicography. No scholar or group of scholars has produced anything to supplant it. As it originally appeared and was later reproduced, the Lexicon consisted of eight large, cumbersome volumes, which made it difficult to use. This set has brought together the eight large volumes into two compact volumes; it is now possible to keep the Lexicon on the work desk and refer to it with ease. This monumental work from the 19th century, a product of over thirty years of unrelenting labor, is to this day the supreme authority as the most scholarly dictionary available. A major source behind all dictionaries produced today and every major works on Arabic studies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49597096952081,"sku":"GOR013765370","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/8171513859.jpg?v=1751351619"},{"product_id":"manners-and-customs-of-the-modern-egyptians-book-e-w-lane-9781596051614","title":"Manners and Customs of the Modern Egyptians","description":"A pioneering work of cultural anthropology, E.W. Lane's study of Egyptian society has not been out of print since it was first issued in 1836. Immersing himself in Egyptian culture, Lane learned the Arabic language and adopted the Arab way of life. Written before the forces of innovation transformed Egypt, Manners \u0026amp; Customs of the Modern Egyptians is recognized for its wide-ranging scope of detail on daily life topics such as the nature of Islamic laws and its relation to government, birth and marriage customs, death and funeral rites, music and dancing, and the world of magic and alchemy. This distinctive work retains its power to charm and fascinate contemporary readers. EDWARD WILIAM LANE (1801-1876) was a British translator, lexicographer, and Orientalist. Instead of studying at college as a young man, Lane moved to London with his brother to study engraving, at which time he also began to study Arabic. When his health began failing, he moved to Egypt for a change of atmosphere and to continue his studies. While in Egypt, Lane began to study ancient Egypt, but soon became more entranced by modern customs and society. He relied on Egyptian men to help him gather information, especially on the topic of Egyptian women, on which he wrote many books. Lane also translated One Thousand and One Nights, though his greatest work remains The Arabic-English Lexicon.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51038795956497,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51038799233297,"sku":"NIN9781596051614","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1596051612.jpg?v=1751374979"},{"product_id":"english-woman-in-egypt-letters-from-cairo-written-during-a-residence-there-in-tw-book-e-w-lane-9781473337923","title":"The English Woman in Egypt - Letters from Cairo, Written During a Residence There - In Two Volumes - Volume II","description":"The English Woman in Egypt: Letters from Cairo is a 1836 work by E. W. Lane. Following the success of his previous work The Natural History of Aleppo (1756), Lane travelled to Egypt again to do further research for another book. However, the fact that he was a man prevented him from viewing all aspects of society. To gain a complete view of his subject, he invited his sister to the country. The result was this volume, which delves into the side of life he was not privy to: the life of women. This book is highly recommended for those with an interest in Egyptian life the nineteenth century, particularly that of women. Contents include: The Haunted House, Climate in Egypt, State of the Poor, Respect Paid to the Mother of a Family, The Wife, Preparation of Food and Manner of Eating, Eastern Etiquette, Dinner Arrangements, Sacredness of the Hareem, and Respect Paid to Females, Usage of Marrying Without having seen the Future Wife, etc. Edward William Lane (1801 - 1876) was a British Orientalist, lexicographer, and translator. He is best known for his translation of One Thousand and One Nights, which he famously censored in the light Victorian morality. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53403110965521,"sku":"NIN9781473337923","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781473337923.jpg?v=1776129129"},{"product_id":"manners-and-customs-of-the-modern-egyptians-rare-book-e-w-lane-1779266842mhu","title":"Manners and Customs of the Modern Egyptians","description":"1966.
