Nach ZAHN [2] wird durch die Superkontraktion der Elastizitäts­ modul um Zehnerpotenzen herabgesetzt und der lineare thermische Ausdeh­ nungskoeffizient wird negativ, das heißt die Keratinfasern sind im superkontrak­ tierten Zustand gummielastisch (entropieelastisch). Superkontraktion kann man 0 schon durch einfaches Erhitzen von Wolle in Wasser auf etwa 130 e (ZAHN [3]) erreichen, leichter durch Erwärmen in wäßrigen Lösungen verschiedener Phenole [2], Formamid [4], Alkalisulfid, Alkalisulfit bzw. -bisulfit sowie mit konzentrier­ ten Alkali- und Erdalkalisalz-Lösungen [5, 6]. In Lithiumbromid-Lösungen (\u0026gt; 6 m) beobachteten HALY und FEUGHELMAN [7] eine zweistufige Super­ kontraktion, und zwar einmal kurz nach dem Einbringen der Faser in die LiBr­ Lösungen bei Zimmertemperatur und dann die zweite Stufe bei Erhitzen auf ca. 90°C.
