It includes some of Hegel's earliest critical writings--which reveal much about his thinking before the first mature exposition of his position in 1807--as well as Schelling's justification of the new philosophy of nature against skeptical and religious attack. This edition contains George di Giovanni’s extensive corrections, new preface, and thoroughly updated bibliography.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49729311637777,"sku":"NGR9780872205048","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50593100726545,"sku":"GOR008937152","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51416558240017,"sku":"CIN0872205045G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0872205045.jpg?v=1781778274"},{"product_id":"essays-on-hegel-s-logic-book-george-di-giovanni-9780791402924","title":"Essays on Hegel's Logic","description":"This book, covering all aspects of Hegel's logic, raises fundamental issues as well as particular problems of interpretation. It discusses whether a speculative logic is possible at all and whether Hegelian logic requires a metalogic or whether it can and ought to make an absolute beginning. It examines, conceptually and historically, the being-nothing dialectic, the relation of essence to show (Schein), and Hegel's treatment of the modal categories. It proposes radically different views of the role of the 'understanding' in Hegelian logic and a radically different view of the necessity underlying it. The book concludes with the argument that Hegel's dialectical logic can cope with a problem that Aristotle's could not. Essays on Hegel's Logic provides a welcome introduction to those interested in this central piece of Hegel's system, and it poses the question of whether, and how, the logic provides a closure to the system. In different ways, and with different degrees of explicitness, the book deals precisely with this issue.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50365441933585,"sku":"CIN0791402924A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53213176529169,"sku":"NLS9780791402924","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0791402924.jpg?v=1750786053"},{"product_id":"hegel-and-the-challenge-of-spinoza-book-george-giovanni-9781108842242","title":"Hegel and the Challenge of Spinoza","description":"Hegel and the Challenge of Spinoza explores the powerful continuing influence of Spinoza's metaphysical thinking in late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century German philosophy. George di Giovanni examines the ways in which Hegel's own metaphysics sought to meet the challenges posed by Spinoza's monism, not by disproving monism, but by rendering it moot. In this, di Giovanni argues, Hegel was much closer in spirit to Kant and Fichte than to Schelling. This book will be of interest to students and researchers interested in post-Kantian Idealism, Romanticism, and metaphysics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50681464652049,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50681464684817,"sku":"NGR9781108842242","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52478877401361,"sku":"NLS9781108842242","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1108842240.jpg?v=1750752180"},{"product_id":"freedom-and-religion-in-kant-and-his-immediate-successors-book-george-giovanni-9780521099813","title":"Freedom and Religion in Kant and his Immediate Successors","description":"The theologians of the late German Enlightenment saw in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason a new rational defence of their Christian faith. Many different polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods for the detection of viruses have been developed, with specificity, speed, and cost advantages over cell culture. However, PCR methods alone do not determine virus infectivity.    This project attempted to bridge the gap between the two detection strategies and build on their strengths. The main objective of this study was to further develop a method referred to as host cell capture quantitative sequence detection (HCC-QSD) for the rapid detection of potentially infectious viruses in water. Specific objectives were to (1) evaluate different host cell lines and capture conditions for their ability to capture enteric viruses, and (2) evaluate the ability of HCC-QSD to distinguish potentially infectious viruses from those inactivated by free-chlorine and ultraviolet light (UV). Waterborne viruses present a significant threat to human health, especially for the growing immunocompromised population. Currently, routine water monitoring and risk assessment for infectious viruses in water is hampered by the lack of rapid, specific, and cost-effective methods. In this study, significant progress was made in the further development of HCC-QSD as a rapid method for the detection and quantitation of potentially infectious viruses in water. Further evaluation of HCC-QSD with different enteric viruses and field samples will help us understand its strengths and limitations and allow its use for the routine monitoring of water for infectious viruses.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51857801773329,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51857801904401,"sku":"NGR9781843392408","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781843392408.jpg?v=1753829323"},{"product_id":"karl-leonhard-reinhold-and-the-enlightenment-book-george-di-giovanni-9789048132263","title":"Karl Leonhard Reinhold and the Enlightenment","description":"Karl Leonhard Reinhold (1757-1823) is a complex figure of the late German Enlightenment. Sometime Catholic priest and active Mason even when still a cleric in Vienna; early disciple of Kant and the first to try to reform the Critique of Reason; influential teacher and prolific author; astute commentator on the immediate post-Kantian scene; and at all times convinced propagandist of the Enlightenment––in all these roles Reinhold reflected his age but also tested the limits of the values that had inspired it. This collection of essays, originally presented at an international workshop held in Montreal in 2007, conveys this multifaceted figure of Reinhold in all its details. In the four themes that run across the contributions––the historicity of reason; the primacy of moral praxis; the personalism of religious belief; and the transformation of classical metaphysics into phenomenology of mind––Reinhold is presented as a catalyst of nineteenth century thought but also as one who remained bound to intellectual prejudices that were typical of the Enlightenment and, for this reason, as still the representative of a past age.
