Gerhard Schmidt hat diesen Weg in seinem Text „Das unerwünschte Buch“ beschrieben. Die erstmals vergebene Wilhelm-Griesinger-Medaille der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Psychiatrie und Nervenheilkunde wurde 1986 an Gerhard Schmidt verliehen.
