P. Khalil Saucier grapples with the performance, embodiment, and nuances of racialized identities (blackened bodies) in empirical contexts. He looks into the durability and (in)flexibility of race and racial discourse through an imbricated and multidimensional understanding of racial identity and racial positioning.  In doing so, Saucier examines how Cape Verdean youth negotiate their identity within the popular fabrication of “multiracial America.” He also explores the ways in which racial blackness has come to be lived by Cape Verdean youth in everyday life and how racialization feeds back into the experience of these youth classified as black through a matrix of social and material settings.  Saucier examines how ascriptions of blackness and forms of black popular culture inform subjectivities. The author also examines hip-hop culture to see how it is used as a site where new (and old) identities of being, becoming, and belonging are fashioned and reworked. Necessarily Black explores race and how Cape Verdean youth think and feel their identities into existence, while keeping in mind the dynamics and politics of racialization, mixed-race identities, and anti-blackness.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50395011907857,"sku":"CIN1611861683G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1611861683.jpg?v=1763124085"},{"product_id":"african-migrants-european-borders-and-the-problem-with-humanitarianism-book-p-khalil-saucier-9781666953848","title":"African Migrants, European Borders, and the Problem with Humanitarianism","description":"African Migrants, European Borders, and the Problem with Humanitarianism presents a probing examination of the contemporary migrant “crisis” in the Mediterranean Basin. By centering our analysis on how racial slavery has shaped European democratic culture, its abolitionist traditions, and the global structures of capital accumulation, P. Khalil Saucier and Tryon P. Woods reveal and confront how contemporary discourse on the migrant “crisis” displaces Black sovereign mobility. Their inquiry into the modern world’s culture of politics investigates “freedom of movement” discourse’s ostensible confrontation with border policing, the memorializing of Black migrant deaths by artists and advocates, and the visual imagery of a cosmopolitan and multicultural Europe as conceived by filmmakers in response to the migrant “crisis” as variants of a slaveholding culture instantiated in the early Mediterranean and Atlantic worlds. This analysis allows the authors to formulate a new critical framework for analysis of both the problems of contemporary migration and borders and the leading prescriptions on offer from analysts, advocates, and policy makers in order to develop alternate ways of conceptualizing global society.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51504160375057,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51504160997649,"sku":"NIN9781666953848","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52616937603345,"sku":"NLS9781666953848","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1666953849.jpg?v=1751409854"},{"product_id":"critical-essays-on-hip-hop-and-the-study-of-hip-hop-book-p-khalil-saucier-9783031807626","title":"Critical Essays on Hip Hop and the Study of Hip Hop","description":"The Internet as we know it today is the result of a continuous activity for improving network communications, end user services, computational processes and also information technology infrastructures. The Internet has become a critical infrastructure for the human-being by offering complex networking services and end-user applications that all together have transformed all aspects, mainly economical, of our lives. Recently, with the advent of new paradigms and the progress in wireless technology, sensor networks and information systems and also the inexorable shift towards everything connected paradigm, first as known as the Internet of Things and lately envisioning into the Internet of Everything, a data-driven society has been created. In a data-driven society, productivity, knowledge, and experience are dependent on increasingly open, dynamic, interdependent and complex Internet services. The challenge for the Internet of the Future design is to build robust enabling technologies, implement and deploy adaptive systems, to create business opportunities considering increasing uncertainties and emergent systemic behaviors where humans and machines seamlessly cooperate.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51631731573009,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51631731900689,"sku":"NGR9783031807626","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52693720760593,"sku":"NIN9783031807626","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031807626.jpg?v=1750870673"},{"product_id":"native-tongues-book-p-khalil-saucier-9781592218370","title":"Native Tongues","description":"Native Tongues brings together critical and new writings on rap and hip-hop in Africa. The essays within this volume explore the fault lines of the racial formation concept, identify the power relations to which it inheres, and resolve the ethical coordinates for alternative ways of conceiving of racism and its correlations with sexism, homophobia, heteronormativity, gender politics, empire, economic exploitation, and other valences of bodily construction, performance, and control in the twenty-first century. Collectively, the contributors advance the argument that contemporary racial theorizing remains mired in antiblackness. Across a diversity of approaches and objects of analysis, the contributors assess what we describe as the conceptual aphasia gripping racial theorizing in our multicultural moment: analyses of racism struck dumb when confronted with the insatiable specter of black historical struggle.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52585382314257,"sku":"NLS9781498517034","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781498517034.jpg?v=1761052721"},{"product_id":"practices-of-disciplinary-refusal-for-new-futures-book-p-khalil-saucier-9798765152362","title":"Practices of Disciplinary Refusal for New Futures","description":"Breaking from Western disciplinary status quo, this book explores the politics of disciplinary refusal and presents alternative ways of seeing the world.  Drawing from the Black radical tradition, P. Khalil Saucier and the contributors challenge normative assertions about power and develop alternate ways of conceptualizing society. The chapters create onto-epistemological grounds for discovery and by extension a domain to experiment with living differently. The authors illustrate how political typologies, often indebted to Enlightenment thought and frequently used to shape discourses of sovereignty, nationalism and globalization, are organized by violence and sentient disavowal. While each chapter works with specific themes and topics, each labor in speculative solidarity with one another in order to identify key issues within racial politics, cultural criticism, and the conceptions of historiography.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53613182779665,"sku":"NGR9798765152362","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9798765152362.jpg?v=1780316760"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/author-books-by-p-khalil-saucier.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
