During the Vietnam War it sustained the highest loss ratio of any American aircraft in that conflict. This volume includes compelling accounts of combat missions over key communist targets, where crews dodged Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs) and anti-aircraft fire to secure all-important mission photographs.  Written by a Vigilante combat veteran this book is crammed full of action-packed first-hand accounts.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50243238887697,"sku":"GOR006341158","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50531806118161,"sku":"CIN1841767492VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1841767492.jpg?v=1777371673"},{"product_id":"quenching-the-phoenix-book-robert-r-powell-9781288280766","title":"Quenching the Phoenix","description":"This study is an analysis of the creation-destruction cycle of special operations forces known in the SOF community as the Phoenix cycle. Throughout AFSOF's history there have been periods of rapid growth in response to national security needs, followed by the destruction of these capabilities shortly after the crisis has passed. The literature analyzing the Phoenix cycle of SOF is relatively short. Because creation and destruction are two sides of military innovation, this study illuminates the factors underlying the Phoenix cycle using military innovation theories and literature. The author contends that none of the single factor theories for military innovation are adequate to describe the entire Phoenix cycle. The Phoenix cycle is the result of the interplay of political influence of civilian leaders as they perceive threats in the external international environment, military institutions that transform political influence into SOF force structure and doctrine, and organizational culture that influences the magnitude and direction of the forces created.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51224039129361,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51224040440081,"sku":"NIN9781288280766","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1288280769.jpg?v=1751239364"},{"product_id":"future-cyborgs-book-robert-r-powell-9781288282241","title":"Future Cyborgs","description":"From its inception as a technology, virtual reality has promised to revolutionize the way we interact with our computers and each other. So far, the reality of virtual reality has not lived up to the hype. This paper explores what the state of virtual reality interface technology will be in the future by analyzing the current state of the art, forecasting trends in areas relevant to virtual reality interface research and development, and highlighting the barriers to providing virtual reality environments that are immersive and interactively indistinguishable from reality (strong VR). This research shows that the evolutionary pathway of virtual reality technology development will not be able to overcome all of the barriers and limitations inherent in the current generation of interfaces. I use a reverse tree methodology to explore alternate pathways to achieve strong VR. Brain-machine interfaces (invasive and non-invasive) represent the most likely pathway that will lead to a strong VR interface. The US Air Force should continue to develop common VR interface technology using widely available interfaces, but should increase its funding and support for technologies that will enable enhanced brain-machine interfaces to ensure its dominance in training and simulation for the future.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51224063901969,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51224066261265,"sku":"NIN9781288282241","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1288282249.jpg?v=1750855811"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/author-books-by-robert-r-powell.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
