Though the presence of British combat types is now almost gone from the skies over Latin America, its legacy will last for a long time. After World War 2, Britain was happy to sell the most modern equipment to the region giving it an advantage over the United States, hitherto the main provider of planes to Latin American air forces. This was one of the main reasons why many air forces chose to buy British combat aircraft up to the 1970s. In many countries Gloster Meteors or de Havilland Vampires were the first jet combat aircraft, while the Argentina's Avro Lancasters and Lincolns was once the most potent bomber force in Latin America. BAC Canberras had five South American operators, were the only jet bombers in use in the region and saw action several times. Combat activity by British types include Argentine planes used during the 1955 revolution and ironically Argentine Canberras in action during the Malvinas\/Falklands War against British forces, Cuban Sea Furies over the Bay of Pigs, Peruvian Canberras in the conflicts with Ecuador, Chilean Hunters during the 1973 coup d'etat, Dominican Vampires, Mosquitoes and Beaufighters in internal struggles","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49735435321617,"sku":"NGR9781902109572","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50401791607057,"sku":"CIN1902109570G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52152826134801,"sku":"GOR011103624","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53243620786449,"sku":"GOR014827302","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1902109570.jpg?v=1751218706"},{"product_id":"air-forces-of-latin-america-argentina-book-santiago-rivas-9781913870928","title":"Air Forces of Latin America: Argentina","description":"Military aviation in Argentina has a long history and for many years it was the most powerful in Latin America, achieving worldwide fame in 1982 when it confronted British forces over the South Atlantic. Sadly, as a result of Argentina's more recent economic woes and a lack of political commitment over more three decades, it is now struggling to maintain its capabilities and replace old aircraft. Ironically, this situation makes for a varied and interesting aviation scene, with Argentine military aviation flying many classic types that are not easy to see in operation today with a military force, as well as some less-common indigenous aircraft. Illustrated with more than 140 photographs, this book shines a spotlight on the Argentine Air Force, Naval Aviation and Army Aviation, as well as the paramilitary forces of the Coast Guard, Gendarmerie and Presidential Flight. Author Santiago Rivas gives a fascinating insight into their histories, comprehensive details of their current organization, their missions and the aircraft they operate, and full 'orders of battle' for each air arm.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49741580435729,"sku":"NGR9781913870928","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1913870928.jpg?v=1750867354"},{"product_id":"air-forces-of-latin-america-colombia-book-santiago-rivas-9781802821963","title":"Air Forces of Latin America: Colombia","description":"Colombian military aviation is one of the most powerful in Latin America and comprises aviation divisions from four branches: the Fuerza A rea Colombiana (FAC, Colombian Air Force), Armada Nacional de la Rep blica de Colombia (ARC, Colombian National Navy), Ej rcito Nacional de Colombia (EJC, Colombian National Army) and Polic a Nacional de Colombia (PNC, National Police of Colombia). While the FAC has been operating for more than a century, and remains the main aviation force, the other three have become very powerful and efficient forces over the past 40 years. The PNC is the biggest force of its type in the world. Colombia has struggled for decades with internal conflicts involving guerrilla groups and drug traffickers. In recent years, the threat posed by Venezuela has forced its aviation units to develop fighting capabilities from largely asymmetric warfare to facing a more conventional enemy. With over 180 images, this book provides a look at the history, organisation, deployment, missions and aircraft of all four of Colombia's aviation forces.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49746949832977,"sku":"NGR9781802821963","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1802821961.jpg?v=1751026528"},{"product_id":"air-forces-of-latin-america-book-santiago-rivas-9781802824827","title":"Air Forces of Latin America","description":"Chilean military aviation has a long history, but in the past 25 years it has experienced unprecedented growth, accompanying the development of the Chilean economy and the country's more active participation in regional and world affairs. Since the mid-1990s, considerable expansion programmes have been developed for the Air Force, Naval and Army aviation, which have made the Chilean air arm one of the most modern and powerful in Latin America. The Carabineros and the Policía de Investigaciones (Investigative Police), dedicated to internal security, make up the total of five Chilean state organisations that use aircraft. While Chilean military aviation has never taken part in a conflict, it has experienced years of tension with the country's three neighbours (Argentina, Bolivia and Peru). Although relations have since improved, there are new challenges to be faced, especially after 2018, when the country's domestic situation worsened and violence in the south increased. The Argentine Air Force, seeing this threat grow, asked the FMA factory to produce a counterinsurgency airplane to equip the force, but also to offer on the international market. After several proposals were analysed, a final product emerged, called the IA-58 Pucar , a robust twin turboprop aircraft with heavy internal weapons, planned to operate from unprepared airstrips on very hard conditions. The plane entered service with the Argentine Air Force in 1975 and more than 100 were produced over the years, with several versions being developed or proposed. It was purchased by Uruguay, Colombia and Sri Lanka, the type gained world notoriety when they took part on the 1982 South Atlantic war, but also had combat experience in Colombia and Sri Lanka, and was tested by the Royal Air Force. Now, with the original version already retired, the Argentine Air Force plans to convert them into the Pucar F nix version, with new engines and avionics, with new missions too, like intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. While some aspects of its story were described in many publications, most of it has never been told until now, including many unknown proposed versions and details of its operational record, both in Argentina and in the other countries that operated the plane.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49750488056081,"sku":"NGR9781399097925","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53019848900881,"sku":"GOR014698596","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/139909792X.jpg?v=1751422736"},{"product_id":"skyhawks-over-the-south-atlantic-book-santiago-rivas-9781912866397","title":"Skyhawks Over the South Atlantic","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49777683792145,"sku":"NGR9781912866397","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50259981959441,"sku":"GOR010464676","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1912866390.jpg?v=1751631808"},{"product_id":"air-forces-of-latin-america-book-santiago-rivas-9781802827729","title":"Air Forces of Latin America","description":"As the largest country in Latin America, Brazil has a correspondingly extensive military aviation capability, with a rich history building on the country's participation in World War Two.In recent years, a modernisation process has been taking place, heralded by the introduction into service of the Embraer KC390 and the Gripen NG. Despite budget constraints, Brazil is transforming its military aviation into the most powerful and modern air force in Latin America, adding new technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles, airborne early warning and control and improved intelligence platforms.Brazil's navy and army also have air arms, each well equipped for their specific roles, but all are facing challenges to retain their autonomy and incorporate new missions while maintaining the security of such a vast country, with difficult-to-control borders and a long coastline. Founded in 1927 and located in Córdoba for most of its existence it was known as Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA) until its privatisation in the 1990s when it became part of Lockheed Martin. In 2009, it was renationalised and the company is now once again wholly owned by the Argentine government.Initially, the factory produced aircraft built under licence from companies such as Avro but it is best known for making the first jet fighter aircraft in Latin America: the Pulqui I (1947) and the Pulqui II (1950) under the director of engineers Emile Dewoitine and Kurt Tank respectively. The post World War Two era was a particularly interesting one at the FAdeA with creative and innovative designers such as Reimar Horten being involved with the business. This book is a history of the company and the aircraft it produced from the 1920s to the present day. It covers all the aircraft that were produced by the company, both those built under licence and original designs. It also examines the many projects and prototypes which were developed over the years. For all those with an interest in some of the less well-known aspects of aviation history, this book will be a revelation.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51201707049233,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51201708523793,"sku":"NGR9781902109671","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1902109678.jpg?v=1751187059"},{"product_id":"wings-of-the-malvinas-book-santiago-rivas-9781902109220","title":"Wings of the Malvinas","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51841215791377,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51841215987985,"sku":"GOR008786859","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781902109220.jpg?v=1753270877"},{"product_id":"playa-giron-book-santiago-rivas-9781911096023","title":"Playa GiroN","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52109563691281,"sku":"GOR013544450","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781911096023.jpg?v=1757129969"},{"product_id":"warplane-plus-01-book-santiago-rivas-9789086162710","title":"Warplane Plus 01","description":"The Northrop Corporation offered the single engined Gamma 2F attack plane to the US Army Air Corps in October 1934.
