Jung and science-fiction author, Philip K. Dick, two figures who have done far more than most to revive an interest in the Gnostic tradition in the modern world. Despite profoundly different approaches - one was a depth psychologist whose unique insights and approach to psychology forced him to explore the depths of the unconscious in a way that inevitably led him to touch frequently on metaphysical or spiritual matters; the other was an author of science-fiction - there are some striking parallels between their unique Gnostic visions.   With the relatively recent publication of both Jung's and Dick's personal journals - The Red Book (2009), and, The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick (2011), respectively - in which they articulate their Gnostic visions, it seems timely to make this comparison.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51050701062417,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51050703159569,"sku":"NIN9781782206071","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51606693216529,"sku":"CIN1782206078G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52088873943313,"sku":"NLS9781782206071","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ LIKE_NEW \/ SBYB","offer_id":52880245391633,"sku":"CIN1782206078LN","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1782206078.jpg?v=1751248071"},{"product_id":"lowe-and-le-breton-mysteries-death-at-the-playhouses-book-stuart-douglas-9781803368221","title":"Lowe and Le Breton mysteries - Death at the Playhouses","description":"A second witty, fun, 1970s-set whodunnit in the Lowe and Le Breton mysteries series, featuring two ageing actors attempting to solve a murder after their famous co-star is found dead in a doorway outside the theatre in which they're performing. Nostalgic cosy crime that's perfect for fans of The Thursday Murder Club and Death \u0026amp; Croissants.  It's 1971 and, in between filming seasons of Floggit and Leggit, ageing actors Edward Lowe and John Le Breton sign up for a short run of Shakespearean tragedies at the Bolton Playhouse. But, once in Lancashire, they discover they have been invited to join the theatre's repertory company for two reasons - because the company manager is keen to take advantage of the publicity surrounding their successful BBC comedy series, and because Sir Nathaniel Thompson, the much-lauded star of the show and knight of the realm, has been sacked for drunkenness.  John fears an awkward scene, should Thompson - who he knew during the war - return to reclaim his job, but when the great actor's body is found, bludgeoned to death in a nearby alleyway, the unlikely crime-solving duo find themselves investigating another fiendish mystery that takes them from the northwest of England to the Netherlands, and which, rather inconveniently, seems to have John's ex-wife Sally at its heart.  Death at the Playhouses is the second in The Lowe and Le Breton Mysteries series.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51201755382033,"sku":"NGR9781803368221","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51374745256209,"sku":"NIN9781803368221","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51454238425361,"sku":"CIN1803368225G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51816321220881,"sku":"GOR014410082","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51952964632849,"sku":"GOR014470524","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52604275458321,"sku":"GOR014559594","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52620318212369,"sku":"NLS9781803368221","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52969745088785,"sku":"GOR014673742","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1803368225.jpg?v=1759917847"},{"product_id":"shuggie-bain-booker-preis-2020-book-stuart-douglas-9783446271081","title":"Shuggie Bain: Booker Preis 2020","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51389468213521,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51389468410129,"sku":"GOR014251678","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3446271082.jpg?v=1750806935"},{"product_id":"boulevard-volume-1-book-stuart-douglas-9781913456337","title":"The Boulevard Volume 1","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51606449127697,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51606449226001,"sku":"GOR014330284","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1913456331.jpg?v=1750804292"},{"product_id":"mungo-book-stuart-douglas-9782266339070","title":"Mungo","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51628613894417,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51628614091025,"sku":"GOR013950301","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/2266339079.jpg?v=1751157773"},{"product_id":"john-of-john-book-douglas-stuart-9781035086962","title":"John of John","description":"The stunning new novel from the Booker Prize-winning, Sunday Times-bestselling author of SHUGGIE BAIN and YOUNG MUNGO. While Cal wonders if any lonely men might be found on the barren hillsides of home, John is dismayed by his son’s long hair and how he seems unwilling to be Saved. Relevant and timely due to the relatively recent publication of Jung's The Red Book, the hypothesis of this work is that the Seven Sermons is the mythopoetic, metaphysical twin of 'The Transcendent Function' and that these texts can be considered as two sides of the same coin.  The Seven Sermons formed a prelude to everything Jung was to communicate about the unconscious-in other words, an embryonic form of the principal tenets of analytical psychology can be found in a Gnostic-inspired text.As Gnostic philosophy was the inspiration for both texts, this book also highlights correspondences between both of Jung's works and the Gnostic texts of the Nag Hammadi Library, paying particular attention to the theme of the opposites-arguably the crucial theme at the very heart of Jung's psychology. Accompanying an analysis of these texts is an experiential investigation of the influence the topic had on the occurrence of the transcendent function in the author's dreams, the intention of which is to provide a richer description of the experience of the transcendent function and to facilitate a deeper understanding of the topic.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52481861779729,"sku":"NLS9781782204282","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53375628443921,"sku":"NIN9781782204282","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781782204282.jpg?v=1759852351"},{"product_id":"white-bird-black-serpent-red-book-book-stuart-douglas-9780367329754","title":"White Bird, Black Serpent, Red Book","description":"This book is principally about what is commonly referred to as Gnosticism and its influence on Jung's analytical psychology. For fans of Gareth Rubin’s Holmes and Moriarty.  In the week before Christmas, Dr Watson convinces an unwilling Sherlock Holmes to accompany him into the centre of London to go shopping for a gift for Mrs Hudson. Unwilling to trail around lots of smaller establishments among the seasonal crowds, Holmes insists they leave early and go to only a single shop – Whitley’s, the capital’s first ‘department’ store, in which everything and anything can be found – ‘from a pin to an elephant’, in the words of its founder, William Whitley.  What they did not expect to find, however, is the body suspended in the branches of the large decorated Christmas tree just inside the entrance way. It looks as though the dead man has fallen from the high workman’s gantry standing to one side and broken his neck. Only Holmes hears a steady, slow drip and notices the pool of blood in the shadows beneath the tree, and recognises that a murder has taken place.  They are still at the store watching an ambulance take the body away when a runner appears from Scotland Yard with the news that another body has been discovered, again left in public. This time it is a young man, throttled with a thin rope, dangling from a beam in the changing rooms at Regents Park Boating Lake. Holmes is able to identify the dead man as a postman, and a search of the area round the lake uncovers his post bag in reeds by the water.  Led to Hampstead by an address on the now fashionable Christmas cards in the post bag, Watson peers through a window and sees someone with their back to him, sitting at a table, with a hand resting on a cup of tea. He knocks furiously, but the seated figure gives no sign of hearing him. They go round the back and find the back door unlocked. Cautiously they enter – to discover the sitter is an elderly woman, obviously dead, with her throat cut. On closer examination, they discover a bloody knife near her right hand, and that her mouth is stuffed to overflowing with Christmas cake.  Can Holmes and Watson find the pattern between these Christmas-themed murders, and bring an end to the killings before the festive season truly begins?","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53392920871185,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53392921166097,"sku":"NGR9781835417973","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781835417973.jpg?v=1778233654"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/author-books-by-stuart-douglas.oembed?page=2","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
