Tsvetaeva was born in 1892, the daughter of a gifted amateur pianist and the founder of what is today the Pushkin Museum. She began writing poetry at the age of six; her first book appeared in 1910. She met her husband, Sergei Efron, in 1911 and had three children by him. In 1917 Sergei joined the White Army and Marina did not see him again for five years. She survived the Revolution and in 1922 emigrated to Prague to join him, later moving to Paris. However, by 1939, hardly known in her own country and virtually ostracized by the emigre community, she was persuaded by Sergei, who was now working for the Soviet Secret Police, to return to Russia. He was arrested and shot on arrival, her surviving daughter was sent to the Gulag, and in 1941, with only enough money left for two loaves of bread, Marina Tsvetaeva committed suicide. The book is being published to coincide with the centenary of her birth on 23 September, 1992.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49552114417937,"sku":"GOR002657424","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0002720531.jpg?v=1750736207"},{"product_id":"tsvetaeva-book-viktoria-schweitzer-9780374524029","title":"Tsvetaeva","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49573267046673,"sku":"GOR002645601","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50530088878353,"sku":"CIN0374524025G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":52466956665105,"sku":"CIN0374524025A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0374524025.jpg?v=1751260246"},{"product_id":"tsvetaeva-book-viktoria-schweitzer-9780374279455","title":"Tsvetaeva","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50232851071249,"sku":"CIN0374279454VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50350579122449,"sku":"CIN0374279454A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52548237459729,"sku":"CIN0374279454G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0374279454.jpg?v=1751292173"},{"product_id":"tsvetaeva-book-viktoria-schweitzer-9780002727020","title":"Tsvetaeva","description":"Born in 1982, the daughter of a gifted pianist and the founder of what is today the Pushkin Museum, Marina Tsetaeva had an intense cloistered and romantic childhood. She published her first collection of poetry to acclaim in 1910 and in the following year in the Crimea met Sergei Efron, the man she married, and around whom her life would revolve to the end. In 1917, Sergei joined the White Army and Marina did not see him again for five years. She and her elder daughter, Alya, barely survived the Revolution (her younger daughter died) and, in 1922, they joined Efron in emigration in Prague. There, and later in Paris, she wrote and published many of her greatest works, among them \"After Russia\". In 1939, estranged from her husband, who had been exposed as a Soviet Spy, virtually ostracized by the emigre community, she returned with her teenage son to the Soviet Union where, in August 1941, she took her own life. This biography is based on 20 years' research.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50267777892625,"sku":"GOR002714748","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50285378994449,"sku":"GOR003329812","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52384795328785,"sku":"GOR001880680","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0002727021.jpg?v=1751035928"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/author-books-by-viktoria-schweitzer.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
