Wynn Bullock was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1902. A brief, but acclaimed, career as a concert vocalist in the late 20s took him to Europe, where he discovered the work of the impressionist and post-impressionist painters. Upon finding that he shared their interest in light and alternative modes of representation of natural and human forms, he abandoned singing and devoted himself to photography for the rest of his life. His photographs are now in the permanent collections of over 80 museums and galleries worldwide.
