Different authors from a variety of countries take innovative approaches to investigating multimodal communication, adapting pedagogical design to digital environments and enhancing cognitive skills through transformations in teaching and learning practices. The eclectic forms under study require eclectic approaches and methodologies, and the authors cross disciplinary boundaries drawing on philosophy, linguistics, semiotics, computational linguistics, mathematics, cognitive studies and neuroaesthetics.  Part I presents methods of analysing multimodal communication in its different displays, covering promotional video in crowdfunding project presentations, multimodal public signs of prohibition and visuals as arguments. Part II explores varied teaching methodologies that have emerged as a result of and in response to modern technological changes and contains somepractical hints for educators. It demonstrates the pedagogical potential of video games, virtual worlds, linguistic corpora and online dictionaries. Part III focuses on psychological and cognitive factors influencing success in the classroom, primarily, ways of developing students’ and teachers’ personalities.  The volume sits at the intersection between Communication Studies, Digital Humanities, Discourse Analysis, Education Theory and Cognitive Studies and is useful to scholars and students of communication, languages, education and other areas of the humanities. This book should trigger scholarly discussions as well as stimulating practitioners’ interest in these fields.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50397055222033,"sku":"CIN3030840700G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52654229881105,"sku":"NLS9783030840709","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3030840700.jpg?v=1750966612"},{"product_id":"critique-of-pure-nature-book-simona-stano-9783031450747","title":"Critique of Pure Nature","description":"This book challenges the Western contemporary “praise for Nature”. How should we contextualise and understand such an opposition, especially in light of the rich semantic scope of the term “nature” and its variability over time? And how can we — if we actually can — envisage alternative models and approaches capable of better accounting for such richness and variability?     The author addresses these fundamental issues, combining an initial theoretical problematisation of the concept of nature and its evolution — from classical philosophy to the crucial changes occurred through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Romanticism and the modern era, finally considering recent insights in philosophy, sociology, cultural anthropology and semiotics — with the analysis of its discursivisation — from the iconography of Mother Nature between the past and the present to the representation of catastrophic events in fictional and non-fictional texts, from clean eating and other popular food trends to the ambivalence of the naked body between its supposed natural ascription and its multiple cultural characterisations. Two protagonists, Antonio Averlino (Filarete) and Christopher Alexander, are singled out under the guiding concepts of poíēsis and poeta faber. The book initiates a dialogue over time between their works and concepts, engaging two cultures, the Renaissance and the contemporary, symbolically chosen for their importance in redefining the profession through the prism of its relation to the architectural creative act.     The core idea revolves around rediscovering the humanistic approach to architecture in and for the contemporary context, and using it in order to better understand architectural creation. The author, François-Bernard Mâche is a composer and internationally renowned musicologist.  He addresses the question of universals in music and demonstrates how musical play is a poetic and natural game that already takes shape in the animal world.  Mâche invites the reader to reconsider the traditional opposition between nature and culture and to reflect on experiencing such intense emotions when both listening to and manipulating sounds. The purpose in reframing human endeavors is for enhanced alignment for livability and sustainability. This book departs from the concept and practice of “design and technology” and argues that most crises that endanger and destruct our ecological livability and sustainability come from our way of thinking and doing with “design and technology” based on the necessity for control. It is the control for overcoming the fear of scarcity, starvation, and the unknown. This book is rather an attempt to find alternate way of decision-making thru holistic methods. The study focuses on the under-researched field of news reception, i.e. how the media-reader relationship can be influenced by readers' feedback. By combing multimodal discourse analysis and corpus methods, this book aims to address the following three research questions regarding the text-reader relationship in Weibo news package: (1) what are the gains and losses in the transfer of news values constructed across platforms and news media? (2) how are Chinese language and emoji collaborated to realize attitudinal meanings and advance readers' positions in news comments? (3) how does readers' response overlap or mismatch with particular news value in a story across news text-reader relations, reader-reader relations and extra text-reader relations? The book has social, theoretical and pedagogical implications for the changing landscape of (Chinese) news discourse and audience studies. Socially, the findings of news and comments analysis show that news value decisions can be negotiated due to readers' active engagement via the social media commenting function. Theoretically, a responsive model of evaluative readings has been built for a better understanding of social media multimodal comments through the lens of reading positions and emoji-text interactions. The book is of interest to researchers in media and communication studies, but can also be used as a reference book for (under)graduate students in social semiotics, linguistics and journalism to learn how to analyze multimodal and interactive (news) texts on social media by triangulation of theories and methodologies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51680410796305,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51680411058449,"sku":"NIN9783031754913","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51717842501905,"sku":"NGR9783031754913","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031754913.jpg?v=1751317609"},{"product_id":"music-as-cultural-heritage-and-novelty-book-oana-andreica-9783031111488","title":"Music as Cultural Heritage and Novelty","description":"This book provides a multifaceted view on the relation between the old and the new in music, between tradition and innovation. This is a much-debated issue, generating various ideas and theories, which rarely come to unanimous conclusions. Therefore, the book offers diverse perspectives on topics such as national identities, narrative strategies, the question of musical performance and musical meaning. Alongside themes of general interest, such as classical repertoire, the music of well-established composers and musical topics, the chapters of the book also touch on specific, but equally interesting subjects, like Brazilian traditions, Serbian and Romanian composers and the lullaby. It assesses the built environment as a case study from a phenomenological perspective. Under the notion of phenomenology, this study understands the built environment as the hermeneutical phenomenon of being in the life-world that is experienced by people within the socio-cultural and historical context of habitation. Hermeneutically, the built environment as a phenomenon is contextually interwoven with other phenomena within the socio-cultural, historical, and environmental network. Phenomenologically speaking, the task of the study is to excavate, listen to, unfold, divulge, and reconstruct the socio-culturally, environmentally, and historically constructed relationship between people and their built environment that build, develop, and elaborate the system of knowledge, ethics, and aesthetics. It goes beyond the visual aspect of images and material culture, exploring the relations of narrative and meaning that crystallize the “mechanism of change” that governs fashion systems. Furthermore, the author argues that the system of dress, accessories, and self-presentation are not the only manifestations of a fashion system, interrogating the pertinence of the model developed throughout its sections to the study of knowledge. The book presents three case studies. The first focuses on the construction of body and dress as agents, and their dynamic interaction as the core of fashion changes. In the second  case study, the foundations of cultural opposition between Western practices and the “Islamic Other” are challenged, utilizing the semiotic analysis to test the semantic pertinence of this “false contrariety”. The book closes with the reassessment of the assumption that fashion occurs only in dress and, perhaps, other objects and forms of life belonging to consumable culture. Through these case studies the book makes a statement about the value of cross-discipline and cross-paradigm explorations. As the three sections of this work present the results of a search for a “theory of everything”, this manuscript demonstrates the comprehensiveness and urgency of semiotic studies that cross areas and push the limits of the theory.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52418383053073,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418383675665,"sku":"NGR9783032025395","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783032025395.jpg?v=1768560369"},{"product_id":"from-body-fuel-to-universal-poison-book-francesco-buscemi-9783319891408","title":"From Body Fuel to Universal Poison","description":"This book explores our changing relationship with meat as food. Half storytelling and half historic work, it analyzes the way in which humans have dealt with the idea of eating animals in the Western world, from 1900 to the present. The story part of the book follows the rise and fall of meat, and illustrates how this type of food has become a problem in a more emotional way. The historical component informs and offers readers key data. The author draws on theories of circular societies, smart cities and smart countries to explain how and why forms of meat production that were common in the past have since all but disappeared. Both components, however, explain why meat has been important and why it has now become a problem. In tracing the fall of meat, the author identifies a host of dilemmas. These include fossil energy, pollution, illnesses caused by eating meat, factory farming, and processed foods. Lastly, the book offers a possible solution. The answer focuses on new forms of meat obtained without killing animals and in a sense resembles renewable energy. Overall, this unique cultural history offers revealing insights into how meat affects social relations, interpersonal relationships, and humanity as a whole.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418388590865,"sku":"NGR9783319891408","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}]},{"product_id":"readings-in-numanities-book-oana-andreica-9783319883434","title":"Readings in Numanities","description":"This unique book gathers articles from the numanistic perspective of multidisciplinarity and innovation, connected by three main theoretical interests or overarching themes: music, semiotics and translation. Our primary fault as humanists was that of stubbornly thinking that the world’s changes could never really affect us, as – we felt – our identity was sacred.    In the light of these approaches, the main strengths of humanities have been identified in the ability to: promote critical thinking and analytical reasoning; provide knowledge and understanding of democracy and social justice; develop leadership, cultural and ethical values. The main problems of humanities are the lack economic relevance; the socio-institutional perception of them as “impractical” and unemployable; the fact that they do not match with technological development. Finally, the resulting crisis consists mainly in the absence (or radical reduction) of funding from institutions; a decrease in student numbers a decrease in interest; a loss of centrality in society.    A Numanities (New Humanities) project should consider all these aspects, with self-critical assessment on the first line. The goal is to unify the various fields, approaches and also potentials of the humanities in the context, dynamics and problems of current societies, and in an attempt to overcome the above-described crisis. Numanities are introduced not as a theoretical paradigm, but in terms of an “umbrella-concept” that has no specific scientific content in it: that particularly means that the many existing new fields and research trends that are addressing the same problems (post-humanism, transhumanism, transformational humanities, etc.) are not competitors of Numanities, but rather possible ways to them.    Therefore, more than a theoretical program, Numanities intend to pursue a mission, and that is summarized in a seven-point manifesto.    In the light of these premises and reflections, the book then proceeds to identify the areas of inquiry that Numanities, in their functions and comprehensive approach, seek to cover. The following list should also be understood as a statement of purposes for this entire book series. These, in other words, will be the topics\/areas we intend to represent.    Once elaborated on the foundations of Numanities, the book features a second part that presents two case studies based on two relatively recent (and now updated) investigations that the author has performed in the fields of musical and animal studies respectively. The two cases (and relative areas ofinquiry) were selected because they were considered particularly relevant within the discussion of Numanities, and in two different ways.    In the first case-study the author discussed the most typical result (or perhaps cause?) of the technophobic attitude that was addressed in the first part of the book: the issue of “authenticity”, as applied, in the author's particular study, to popular music. In the second case-study, he analyzes two different forms of comparative analysis between human and non-human cognition: like in the former case, this study, too, is aimed at a critical commentary on (what the author considers) redundant biases in current humanistic research – anthropocentrism and speciesism.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52430840594705,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52430841381137,"sku":"NLS9783319455525","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319455525.jpg?v=1759170829"},{"product_id":"music-as-cultural-heritage-and-novelty-book-oana-andreica-9783031111457","title":"Music as Cultural Heritage and Novelty","description":"This book provides a multifaceted view on the relation between the old and the new in music, between tradition and innovation. Alongside themes of general interest, such as classical repertoire, the music of well-established composers and musical topics, the chapters of the book also touch on specific, but equally interesting subjects, like Brazilian traditions, Serbian and Romanian composers and the lullaby. It focusses on repertoires and geographical areas that have not previously been well frequented in musicology. As readers will see, music has many roles to play in society. Music can be a generator of social phenomena, or a result of them; it can enhance or activate social actions, or simply co-habit with them. Above all, music has a stable position within society, in that it actively participates in it. Music can either describe or prescribe social aspects; musicians may have a certain position\/role in society (e.g., the “popstar” as fashion leader, spokesman for political issues, etc.). Depending on the type of society, music may have a certain “meaning” or “function” (music does not mean the same thing everywhere in the world). Lastly, music can define a society, and it is not uncommon for it to best define a particular historical moment.    Case-studies in this work provide visibility for musical cultures that are rarely exposed in the dominant musicological discourse. Several contributions combine musicological analysis with \"insider-musician\" points of view. Some essays in the collection address the cultural clash between certain types of music\/musicians and the respective institutional counterparts, while certain contributing authors draw on experimental research findings.    Throughout this book we see how musics are socially significant, and - at the same time - that societies are musically significant too. Thus the book will appeal to musicologists, cultural scholars and semioticians, amongst others.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52476462924049,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52476463710481,"sku":"NLS9783319836522","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319836522.jpg?v=1759844103"},{"product_id":"spaces-and-meanings-book-olga-lavrenova-9783030151676","title":"Spaces and Meanings","description":"This book examines the problem of relationships between culture and space. Highlighting the use of semiotics of culture as a basic concept of research, it describes the power of the cultural landscape in the context of culture philosophical research. Opening with a discussion of the existence of culture in space, it establishes basic concepts such as noosphere and pneumatosphere. The author acknowledges the early contributions of thinkers like Vladimir Vernadsky and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, who first observed that human activity has become a geological force.  Introducing time and space to the discussion, the author then describes the nature of mythological time, eternity versus timelessness, and the semantics of sacred landscapes, space and ritual. These concepts are further developed in discussions of the metaphorical nature of cultural landscape, and the city as metaphor.   The book explores semiotics in the cultural landscape, examining the genesis of concepts from geographical images to signs and the axiological dimension of geographical images. In her approach to the idea of cultural landscape as text, she provides detailed examples, including the Russian landscape as agent provocateur of the text, and the culture philosophical aspects and semantics of travel.   It establishes the cultural landscape as a phenomenon of culture that is fixed in geographical space with the help of semiotic mechanisms—a specific area of culture of life possessing functional and ontological self-sufficiency.   This book appeals readers and researchers interested in the philosophy of culture, semiotics of space, and the philosophical dimensions of culture and geography.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52479069749521,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52479070765329,"sku":"NLS9783030151676","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030151676.jpg?v=1759848123"},{"product_id":"multiculturalism-as-multimodal-communication-book-alin-olteanu-9783030178826","title":"Multiculturalism as Multimodal Communication","description":"This highly readable book develops a numanistic, and specifically semiotic approach to multiculturalism.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52480441876753,"sku":"NLS9783030178826","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030178826.jpg?v=1759850226"},{"product_id":"arts-and-humanities-in-progress-book-dario-martinelli-9783319833187","title":"Arts and Humanities in Progress","description":"The book aims to introduce a research concept called \"Numanities\", as one possible attempt to overcome the current scientific, social and institutional crisis of the humanities. It presents two authors, specialized in the phenomenological philosophy field, posing questions to each other and offering complex answers for critical discussion. The book includes both presentation of different communication schools and philosophizing on the issues of communication. The authors debate numerous topics by providing the definition and etymology of communication, examining the limits of communication, and using a poli-logical base of communication. The issue which pervades all domains is that of mediation: how things, such as identities, styles, and bodies are mediated by culture, history, and tradition, and what the limits are of such mediation. This question leads to more complex issues of mediated mediations such that an explication of one medium is framed by another medium, leading to a question of meta-language as a fundamental, unmediated medium. This involves some fine points of mediation: perspectivity, discursivity, ethics of communication, ideology, private and public. Throughout the mutual, interrogative dialogue, the authors touch upon, but avoid the daunting commitment to, a theory of metacommunication, as well as the transcendental problematic of accessing the numerous theoretical, thematic, and historical aspects of communication.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52535822352657,"sku":"NLS9783030411053","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030411053.jpg?v=1760672163"},{"product_id":"sounds-from-within-phenomenology-and-practice-book-paulo-c-chagas-9783030725068","title":"Sounds from Within: Phenomenology and Practice","description":"This book transforms phenomenology, music, technology, and the cultural arts from within. The book develops a new concept of identity in the digital age, analyzing the digital flows of recognition and value, which led to the tremendous success of Social Media and the Web 2.0 era. Self-expression, entertainment and consumerism are seen as the major drivers of identity formation in the post-truth era, where the self can no longer be considered independently of a given person’s communication devices, where a substantial part of it is stored and actualized. All chapters reflect the importance of extending the analysis of the concept of “the virtual” to areas of knowledge that, until today, have not been fully included in its philosophical foundations. The respective chapters share new insights on art, media, psychic systems and technology, while also presenting new ways of articulating the concept of the virtual with regard to the main premises of Western thought.  Given its thematic scope, this book is intended not only for a philosophical audience, but also for all scientists who have turned to the humanities in search of answers to their questions.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52670512005393,"sku":"NLS9783030247539","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030247539.jpg?v=1762290016"},{"product_id":"architectural-humanities-in-progress-book-bagoes-wiryomartono-9783030922825","title":"Architectural Humanities in Progress","description":"This monograph brings three branches of philosophy together: epistemology, ethics and aesthetics. It assesses the built environment as a case study from a phenomenological perspective. Under the notion of phenomenology, this study understands the built environment as the hermeneutical phenomenon of being in the life-world that is experienced by people within the socio-cultural and historical context of habitation. Hermeneutically, the built environment as a phenomenon is contextually interwoven with other phenomena within the socio-cultural, historical, and environmental network. Phenomenologically speaking, the task of the study is to excavate, listen to, unfold, divulge, and reconstruct the socio-culturally, environmentally, and historically constructed relationship between people and their built environment that build, develop, and elaborate the system of knowledge, ethics, and aesthetics. By and large, its nature and findings are theoretical and interdisciplinary, so it will be of interest not only for philosophers, but also to scholars studying urban development and anthropology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52672799965457,"sku":"NLS9783030922825","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030922825.jpg?v=1762295489"},{"product_id":"multiculturalism-as-multimodal-communication-book-alin-olteanu-9783030178857","title":"Multiculturalism as Multimodal Communication","description":"This highly readable book develops a numanistic, and specifically semiotic approach to multiculturalism. It reveals how semiotics provides fresh and valuable insights into multiculturalism: in contrast to the binary logic of dualistic philosophy, semiotic logic does not understand the value of truth in rigid terms of ‘true’ or ‘false’, ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ only. The value of truth resides in meaning, which is a dynamic, evolutionary phenomenon, rooted, nevertheless, in factuality. Drawing on recent developments in biosemiotics, the book presents a theoretical approach to multiculturalism, regarding the lives of people living in multicultural environments. Rather than analyzing political or economic phenomena, it offers a semiotic analysis of multiculturalism and discusses its educational implications. It also invites readers to regard learning as a phenomenon of ecological sign growth and to understand multiculturalism along the same lines. As such, itbrings together the life and social sciences and the humanities in a unified perspective, in an approach fitting postmodernism. Developing a postmodern philosophy for contemporary non-experts, which allows distancing from political discourse in favor of a posthumanistic stand, where altruism is seen as an opportunity, not a threat, this book appeals to a wide readership, from scholars seeking state-of-the-art theories to general readers looking for a thought-provoking and enlightening read.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52684152570129,"sku":"NLS9783030178857","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030178857.jpg?v=1762322364"},{"product_id":"reframing-human-endeavors-book-bagoes-wiryomartono-9783031295652","title":"Reframing Human Endeavors","description":"This ambitious text is a monograph about human experiences concerning the potentialities, capacities, and features of humankind from the wholeness of the collective mind body spirit. The purpose in reframing human endeavors is for enhanced alignment for livability and sustainability. This book departs from the concept and practice of design and technology and argues that most crises that endanger and destruct our ecological livability and sustainability come from our way of thinking and doing with design and technology based on the necessity for control. It is the control for overcoming the fear of scarcity, starvation, and the unknown. This book is rather an attempt to find alternate way of decision-making thru holistic methods. It appeals to researchers working in design, sustainability, architecture and urban studies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52688569368849,"sku":"NLS9783031295652","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783031295652.jpg?v=1762333263"},{"product_id":"analysing-musical-signification-book-joan-grimalt-9783032065452","title":"Analysing Musical Signification","description":"This book presents a theoretical framework for hermeneutic musical analysis, enriched with numerous practical examples. Joan Grimalt’s latest work emphasises discursive and dramaturgical dimensions, grounded in hermeneutical principles. Building on his previous volume, Mapping Musical Signification (Springer, 2020), which explores different groupings of musical signs and references, this book adopts a praxis-oriented approach, addressing issues of interpretation in common-practice repertoire.    Structured in four chapters, the book opens with an overview of its theoretical foundations. Chapter One, Mapping Musical Representation, reviews musical hermeneutics and introduces a theory of music as represented discourse. Chapter Two extends topic analysis by proposing a new classification of musical topoi. Chapter Three, Mapping Musical Rhetoric, examines aspects such as prosody and the tone of the discourse. The final chapter, Mapping Musical Dramaturgy, investigates minimal dramaturgical units and offers a range of dramaturgical archetypes. An appendix provides a practical analytical model -outlined in five steps- as a methodological tool for hermeneutic analysis.    Grimalt's most important contribution probably lies in the reconnection between analysis and performance, which had become disconnected in conservatories during the past century. This hermeneutical transformation can be historically explained by the recovery of the traditional concept of \"music as discourse,\" which was prevalent until approximately the world wars.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53221616288017,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53221616615697,"sku":"NLS9783032065452","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783032065452.jpg?v=1772928767"},{"product_id":"critical-analysis-of-china-s-animation-industry-book-vincenzo-de-masi-9783032186553","title":"A Critical Analysis of China's Animation Industry","description":"This book offers a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the Chinese animation industry, tracing its evolution from the magic lanterns of the 19th century to the cutting-edge AI-powered productions of today. It provides readers with an unparalleled look into the fascinating world of Chinese animation, exploring its rich history, cultural significance, and economic impact. Through extensive research, including original interviews with key industry figures and policymakers, this volume illuminates the complex interplay between artistic creation, technological innovation, market forces, and government policies that have shaped the trajectory of animation in China.  The journey begins with the early origins of moving images in China, exploring how traditional storytelling methods and visual arts laid the groundwork for the emergence of animation. The author describes the pioneering work of the Wan brothers, whose groundbreaking animations in the 1920s and 1930s set the stage for the development of a uniquely Chinese animation aesthetic. The book then delves into the golden age of Chinese animation during the socialist era, examining how the state-supported Shanghai Animation Film Studio produced internationally acclaimed works that blended traditional Chinese art forms with modern animation techniques. As China entered the reform and opening-up period, the animation industry underwent significant transformations. The book analyzes how the commercialization and globalization of the 1980s and 1990s reshaped the landscape of Chinese animation, bringing both new opportunities and challenges. Furthermore, it examines the influx of foreign animations, particularly from Japan and the United States, and how this influenced domestic production and audience preferences.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53339091730705,"sku":"NGR9783032186553","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783032186553.jpg?v=1774518562"},{"product_id":"metaphors-in-action-book-francesca-brencio-9783032122124","title":"Metaphors in Action","description":"Through a transdisciplinary lens, this book offers a unique description of how metaphors inform our conceptual system and shape our world accordingly. Metaphors in action means marking a break from conventional methodologies:  observing metaphors as they operate reveals how conceptual mappings serve as interpretive tools, directing perception, limiting reasoning patterns, and either enabling or hindering comprehension in practical situations. This collection guides through an exploration of how metaphors exhibit consistency with the cultural contexts and value systems from which they emerge. We examine metaphor as a \"semantic network\", a framework that immediately suggests new pathways for generating alternative ontological possibilities. This book explores the role and significance of metaphors and the landscapes they shape in five disparate fields: philosophy, linguistics, law, health and digital technologies. This volume is an invaluable resource for students and researchers in philosophy, health sciences, psychology, and the digital humanities.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53339150483729,"sku":"NGR9783032122124","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783032122124.jpg?v=1774395066"},{"product_id":"social-media-use-in-university-studies-book-giedre-valunaite-oleskeviciene-9783030377267","title":"Social Media Use in University Studies","description":"This book highlights the phenomenon of social media use in university studies based on its participants’ lived experience. It will appeal both to academics and practitioners interested in the human factors in the study environments saturated with technologies of social media. This book reveals multiple, sometimes contradictory dimensions of the phenomenon. The contradictions acquire a binary Janus-faced characteristic of uncertainty and paradox. Social media use in university studies also causes changes in experiencing time, space and relations.    Teacher research participants sometimes perceive their time as stress or an additional load, which shows that social media use in university studies demands a new approach to teacher workload and its regulation. There is also the necessity of the sensitive democratic teacher—student pedagogical relationship. This book proves that the pedagogical relationship and human creativity essentially belong to the human living world and are still at the heart of the technological “cyborgian” existence.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53522731041041,"sku":"NLS9783030377267","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030377267.jpg?v=1778459565"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-gb\/collections\/numanities-arts-and-humanities-in-progress-book-series.oembed?page=2","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
