It has had important applications in lattice dynamics, quantum electronics, and nonlinear optics. The study of electron processes in ferroelectrics was begun with VUL's investigations of the ferroelectric properties of barium titanate [1.1]. In- trinsic and extrinsic optical absorption, band structure, conductivity and photoconductivity, carrier mobility. and transport mechanisms were examined in this compound, and in other perovskite ferroelectric semiconductors. An important discovery was that of the highly photosensitive photoconducting ferroelectrics of type AVBVICVIII (e.g. SbSI) by MERZ et al. in 1962 [1.2,3]. A large number of ferroelectric semiconductors (some photosensitive, some not) are now known, including broad-band materials (e.g. lithium niobate, lithium tantalate, barium and strontium niobate, and type-A~B~I compounds), BI and narrow-band semiconductors (e.g. type_AIVB compounds). A series of improper ferroelectric semiconductors and photosensitive ferroelastics have been discovered, of which Sb 0 I is an example. s 7 Owing to the uncertainty of their band structure, the difficulty in deter- mining the nature of the levels, the complexity of alloying, and their gen- erally low mobility values, ferroelectrics are rarely of interest regarded as nonlinear semiconductors. The most fruitful approach has been the study of the influence of electrons (especially nonequilibrium electrons) and electron excitations on phase transitions and ferroelectric properties. A large group of phenomena have recently been discovered and investigated.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49736206123281,"sku":"NGR9783642813535","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52655526281489,"sku":"NLS9783642813535","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52932515070225,"sku":"NIN9783642813535","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3642813534.jpg?v=1751440813"},{"product_id":"positron-annihilation-in-semiconductors-book-reinhard-krause-rehberg-9783642084034","title":"Positron Annihilation in Semiconductors","description":"The subject of this book is the investigation of lattice imperfections in semiconductors by means of positron annihilation. A comprehensive review is given of the different positron techniques, whose application to various kinds of defects, e.g. vacancies, impurity-vacancy complexes and dislocations, is described. The sensitivity range of positron annihilation with respect to the detection of these defects is compared to that of other defect-sensitive methods. The most prominent results obtained with positrons in practically all important semiconductors are reviewed. A special chapter of the book deals with positron annihilation as a promising tool for many technological purposes. Further, it addresses currently emerging characterization techniques such as optical and acoustic, vibrational spectroscopy (Brillouin, infrared, Raman), electronic, magnetic, fluorescence correlation imaging, laser lithography, small angle X-ray and neutron scattering and other techniques, including site-selective nanoprobes. The book analyzes the topological aspects to identify and quantify these effects in terms of topology metrics.   The topological materials are ubiquitous and range from (i) de novo nanoscale allotropes of carbons in various forms such as nanotubes, nanorings, nanohorns, nanowalls, peapods, graphene, etc. to (ii) metallo-organic frameworks, (iii) helical gold nanotubes, (iv) Möbius conjugated polymers, (v) block co-polymers, (vi) supramolecular assemblies, to (vii) a variety of biological and soft-matter systems, e.g. foams and cellular materials, vesicles of different shapes and genera, biomimetic membranes, and filaments, (viii) topological insulators and topological superconductors, (ix) a variety of Dirac materials including Dirac and Weyl semimetals, as well as (x) knots and network structures. Topological databases and algorithms to model such materials have been also established in this book.   In order to understand and properly characterize these important emergent materials, it is necessary to go far beyond the traditional paradigm of microscopic structure–property–function relationships to a paradigm that explicitly incorporates topological aspects from the outset to characterize and\/or predict the physical properties and currently untapped functionalities of these advanced materials. Simulation and modeling tools including quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, 3D visualization and tomography are also indispensable. These concepts have found applications in condensed matter physics, materials science and engineering, physical chemistry and biophysics, and the various topics covered in the book have potential applications in connection with novel synthesis techniques, sensing and catalysis. As such, the book offers a unique resource for graduate students and researchers alike.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49737632383249,"sku":"NGR9783319765952","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52121158942993,"sku":"NLS9783319765952","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3319765957.jpg?v=1750806147"},{"product_id":"introduction-to-solid-state-theory-book-otfried-madelung-9783540604433","title":"Introduction to Solid-State Theory","description":"Introduction to Solid-State Theory is a textbook for graduate students of physics and materials science. It also provides the theoretical background needed by physicists doing research in pure solid-state physics and its applications to electrical engineering. The fundamentals of solid-state theory are based on a description by delocalized and localized states and - within the concept of delocalized states - by elementary excitations. The development of solid-state theory within the last ten years has shown that by a systematic introduction of these concepts, large parts of the theory can be described in a unified way. This form of description gives a \"pictorial\" formulation of many elementary processes in solids, which facilitates their understanding.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50139087110417,"sku":"CIN354060443XVG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52348485173521,"sku":"NLS9783540604433","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/354060443X.jpg?v=1750934938"},{"product_id":"optical-response-of-nanostructures-book-kikuo-cho-9783540003991","title":"Optical Response of Nanostructures","description":"This book deals with a recently developed theoretical method for calculating the optical response of nanoscale or mesoscopic matter. There has been much interest in this type of matter system because it brings out a new feature of solid state physics, viz. , the central importance of the quantum mechanical coherence of matter in its transport and optical properties, in contrast to bulk systems. The author has been interested in the optical properies of mesoscopic matter since the mid-1980s, seeking to construct a new theoretical framework beyond the traditional macroscopic optical response theory. The new element to be included is the microscopic spatial structure of the response field and induced polarization, and the nonlocal relationship between them. This is the counterpart of the size quantization of confined electrons or excitons reflecting the sampIe size and shape in detail. AIthough the latter aspect has been widely discussed, the former has not received due attention, and this has prompted the author to introduce a new theoretical framework. This book describes such a theory, as developed by the author's present group. Although it is only one of several such frameworks, we believe that it is constructed in a sufficiently general manner to apply to the study of the linear and nonlinear optical responses of nanostructures of various sizes and shapes, subjects of considerable interest today.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50316862882065,"sku":"CIN3540003991G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52666192855313,"sku":"NLS9783540003991","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52761636995345,"sku":"NIN9783540003991","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3540003991.jpg?v=1750903709"},{"product_id":"electronic-phase-separation-in-magnetic-and-superconducting-materials-book-maxim-yu-kagan-9783031554667","title":"Electronic Phase Separation in Magnetic and Superconducting Materials","description":"This book focuses on nanoscale electronic phase separation in a wide class of different materials, especially in strongly correlated electron systems. It features an extensive review of the field of inhomogeneous spin and charge states in condensed matter physics while delivering a topical and timely discussion of a wide range of recent advances in electronic phase separation. It describes the formation of different types of nanoscale ferromagnetic metallic droplets in antiferromagnetically ordered, charge-ordered, or orbitally-ordered insulating matrices, as well as the colossal magnetoresistance effect and tunneling electron transport in the nonmetallic phase-separated state of complex magnetic oxides. It also discusses compounds with spin-state transitions, inhomogeneously phase-separated states in strongly correlated multiband systems, and the electron polaron effect, paying special attention to systems with imperfect Fermi surface-nesting such as chromium alloys, iron-based pnictides, and AA-stacked graphene bilayers. The authors investigate also the formation of order parameter clusters and insulator-superconductor transition in different superconducting systems including bismuth oxides, two-dimensional films in the presence of strong disorder, as well as inhomogeneous Fermi-Bose mixtures in Aharonov-Bohm rings with a superconducting bridge in a topologically nontrivial state. This remarkable fact requires some explanation. It also poses, but perhaps also answers, the question of why a new monograph entitled 'The Quantum Hall Effect' is a highly desirable addition to the literature. Originally the quantum Hall effect (QHE) was a term coined to describe the unexpected observation of a fundamental electrical resistance, with a value independent of the microscopic details of the semiconductor device. The simplest explanation of this phenomenon was based on an independent electron picture. The subsequent discovery of the fractional quantum Hall ef fect demonstrated that a many-body wave function and a more global view of the system is necessary to incorporate and explain interesting new aspects. Today, the quantum Hall effect has become a pseudonym for many differ ent phenomena observed in high magnetic fields, with connections not only to solid state physics but also to theoretical descriptions in plasma physics, astrophysics, atomic physics, and high energy physics. There are even spec ulations that a higher-dimensional generalization of the QHE may be useful for discussing questions related to the basic properties of space.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51061009809681,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51061012594961,"sku":"NIN9783540431152","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52327449231633,"sku":"NLS9783540431152","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3540431152.jpg?v=1750934930"},{"product_id":"phonons-theory-and-experiments-i-book-peter-bresch-9783642817830","title":"Phonons: Theory and Experiments I","description":"This two-volume treatment grew out of lectures the author gave at the Ecole Poly technique Federale de Lausanne during the years 1975-1980 for graduate students in experimental physics in their last year of study. Knowledge about these deve lopments may, however, be gathered only from original research contributions, scattered in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Review articles have been published from time to time, but they deal with one particular material or a particular phenomenon and are written at an advanced level. In contrast to frequency dispersion, namely, the frequency dependence of the dielectric constant, spatial dispersion is of interest in optics mainly when it leads to qualitatively new phenomena. One such phenomenon has been weH known for many years; it is the natural optical activity (gyrotropy). But there are other interesting effects due to spatial dispersion, namely, new normal waves near absorption lines, optical anisotropy of cubic crystals, and many others. Crystal optics that takes spatial dispersion into account includes classical crystal optics with frequency dispersion only, as a special case. In our opinion, this fact alone justifies efforts to develop crystal optics with spatial dispersion taken into account, although admittedly its influence is smaH in some cases and it is observable only under rather special conditions. Furthermore, spatial dispersion in crystal optics deserves attention from another point as well, namely, the investigation of excitons that can be excited by light. We contend that crystal optics with spatial dispersion and the theory of excitons are fields that overlap to a great extent, and that it is sometimes quite impossible to separate them. It is our aim to show the true interplay be tween these interrelations and to combine the macroscopic and microscopic approaches to crystal optics with spatial dispersion and exciton theory.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51062337765649,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51062340714769,"sku":"NIN9783662024089","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52660200341777,"sku":"NLS9783662024089","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/366202408X.jpg?v=1751285003"},{"product_id":"quantum-plasmonics-book-sergey-i-bozhevolnyi-9783319458199","title":"Quantum Plasmonics","description":"This book presents the latest results of quantum properties of light in the nanostructured environment supporting surface plasmons, including waveguide quantum electrodynamics, quantum emitters, strong-coupling phenomena and lasing in plasmonic structures. In addition to summarizing developments in this new field of research the book also discusses magnetism applying synchrotron radiation. In short, the book reviews the fundamental physical concepts of the subject and uses them in a coherent fashion to explain some of the problems and applications at the forefront of magnetism. About 50 years ago, vortices started to become prominent as quantum me chanical objects constructed from a macroscopic wavefunction. Here the key developments are associated with the names R. Feynman, L. Onsager, L. D. Landau, F. London, V.L. Ginzburg and A.A. Abrikosov. Recently, the physics of vortices has undergone a further important step of diversification, namely in unconventional superconductors and superfluids, which are characterized by an anisotropic and\/or spatially complex order parameter. It is this latest evolutionary step of vortex physics that is addressed in this book. The indi vidual chapters are concerned with the microscopic structure and dynamics of vortices in diverse systems ranging from superfluids and superconductors to neutron stars. Each of the 20 chapters is written by one or more experts on the parti cular subject. Each chapter provides an introduction and overview, empha sizing theoretical as well as experimental work, and includes references to both recent and pioneering earlier developments. In this way non-expert rea ders will also benefit from these lecture notes. Hence, the book will be useful for all researchers and graduate students interested in the physics of vorti ces in unconventional superconductors and superfluids. It may also serve as supplementary material for a graduate course on low-temperature solid-state physics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51138357264657,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51138360836369,"sku":"NIN9783540423362","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52351633391889,"sku":"NLS9783540423362","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3540423362.jpg?v=1751032186"},{"product_id":"principles-of-magnetic-resonance-book-charles-p-slichter-9783540501572","title":"Principles of Magnetic Resonance","description":"The first edition of this book was written in 1961 when I was Morris Loeb Lecturer in Physics at Harvard. The theory is developed from first principles including fully the electron-electron interaction and spin interactions. It is based on the many-body perturbation theory, a quantum-field-theoretical description, and Green's functions. The important expressions for ground states as well as electronic single-particle and pair excitations are explained. Based on single-particle and two-particle Green's functions, the Dyson and Bethe-Salpeter equations are derived. They are applied to calculate spectral and response functions. Important spectra are those which can be measured using photoemission\/inverse photoemission, optical spectroscopy, and electron energy loss\/inelastic X-ray spectroscopy. Important approximations are derived and discussed in the light of selected computational and experimental results. Some numerical implementations available in well-known computer codes are critically discussed. The book is divided into four parts: (i) In the first part the many-electron systems are described in the framework of the quantum-field theory. The electron spin and the spin-orbit interaction are taken into account. Sum rules are derived. (ii) The second part is mainly related to the ground state of electronic systems. The total energy is treated within the density functional theory. The most important approximations for exchange and correlation are delighted. (iii) The third part is essentially devoted to the description of charged electronic excitations such as electrons and holes. Central approximations as Hedin's GW and the T-matrix approximation are discussed.(iv) The fourth part is focused on response functions measured in optical and loss spectroscopies and neutral pair or collective excitations.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51142671335697,"sku":"NIN9783662445921","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52434796445969,"sku":"NLS9783662445921","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3662445921.jpg?v=1751190360"},{"product_id":"superconductivity-of-transition-metals-book-sv-vonsovsky-9783642618215","title":"Superconductivity of Transition Metals","description":"This book should fill a gap which has existed in the literature on supercon ductivity. Onodera Preface to the Japanese Edition As the title shows, this book has been prepared as a textbook to introduce readers to the applications of group theory in several fields of physics. Group theory is, in a nutshell, the mathematics of symmetry. It has three main areas of application in modern physics. The first originates from early studies of crystal morphology and constitutes a framework for classical crystal physics. The analysis of the symmetry of tensors representing macroscopic physical properties (such as elastic constants) belongs to this category. The sec- ond area was enunciated by E. Wigner (1926) as a powerful means of handling quantum-mechanical problems and was first applied in this sense to the analysis of atomic spectra. The volume has increased somewhat because several improvements have been made and some new items have been included. In Sect. 13. 2 the new Quantum Cascade Laser which covers the far in- frared spectral range has been added. In Sect. 14. 4 the theory of the quantum Hall effect is now based on ballistic transport which in a more general respect without referring to the then still unknown quantum Hall effect was consid- ered already by Rudolf Peierls. In the same chapter, the recent discovery of a low-temperature resistance oscillation in a very pure semiconductor under the influence of combined dc and ac electric fields in addition to a magnetic field is presented. Furthermore, quantum Hall effect observations with an unprece- dented high precision are remarkable and may give a new impetus to theory. A new Sect. 15. 5 presents information about coaxial carbon tubes of nanometer size diameter and how they are integrated as the current transporting element in a field effect transistor. In another new addition Sect. 15. 6 with the title Molecular Electronics, the current-voltage rectifying characteristics of an or- ganic Langmuir-Blodgett film of nanometer thickness is shown. These efforts serve to demonstrate where the ever decreasing size of electronic circuits may come to its natural limits. Theoretical foundations for calculating the dielectric function associated with excitons along with the concept of 'exciton-polaritons' are introduced. The book also examines the interaction between excitons and phonons, which is illustrated with experimental findings. Further, it discusses the effects of magnetic field on the energy eigenstates of excitons, and talks about polarization-resolved spectroscopy under magnetic field for identifying excitons and obtaining deeper insight of the excitonic structure as well as the semiconductor band structure. Lastly, it delves into the manybody effects i.e. Bose-Einstein condensation of excitons and excitonic Mott transition, presenting recent experimental findings and potential applications. Through detailed analysis, the text illuminates the thermal agitation of solids, manifesting as vibrations known as phonons, which impede electron flow and contribute to electrical resistance. Readers gain insight into the production of electronic devices through semiconductor doping, exploring various device types and their functionalities. The book further investigates the temperature-dependent behavior of metal resistance, including the phenomenon of superconductivity, wherein resistance vanishes entirely at low temperatures—a phenomenon comprehensively elucidated within these pages. Moreover, the text unravels the mysteries of magnetism in solids, exploring how certain metals, such as iron, exhibit permanent magnetism. By probing into the underlying causes of magnetism, readers gain a deeper understanding of solid-state physics. Additionally, the book explores imaging techniques such as X-rays, offering insights into how scientists peer inside solids to decipher their internal structures and properties. Specifically, it discusses various types of topological semimetals – Dirac, Weyl, nodal-line, triple-point, and multifold semimetals – and provides description for the characteristic features of the linear electrodynamic response for all these types of materials. Topological semimetals possess peculiar bulk electronic band structure, which leads to unusual electrodynamic response. For example, the low-energy inter-band optical conductivity of nodal semimetals is supposed to demonstrate power-law frequency dependence and the intra- and inter-band contributions to the conductivity are often mixed. Further, the magneto-optical response is also unusual, because of the non-equidistant spacing between the Landau levels. Finally, in semimetals with chiral electronic bands, e.g. in Weyl semimetals, thesimultaneous application of parallel magnetic and electric fields leads to the chiral anomaly, i.e. to a misbalance between the electrons with diffident chiralities. This misbalance affects the electrodynamics properties of the material and can be detected optically. All these points are addressed here in detail. The rationale for a book on magnetism is as valid today as it was when the first two editions of Quantum Theory of Magnetism were published. Magnetic phenomena continue to be discovered with deep scientific implications and novel applications. Since the Second Edition, for example, Giant Magneto Resistance (GMR) was discovered and the new field of spintronics is currently expanding. Not only do these phenomena rely on the concepts presented in this book, but magnetic properties are often an important clue to our understanding of new materials (e.g., high-temperature superconductors). Their magnetic properties, studied by susceptibility measurements, nuclear magnetic resonance, neutron scattering, etc. have provided insight to the superconductivity state. This updated edition offers revised emphasis on some material as a result of recent developments and includes new material, such as an entire chapter on thin film magnetic multilayers. Researchers and students once again have access to an up-to-date classic reference on magnetism, the key characteristic of many modern materials.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52124082766097,"sku":"NLS9783540651161","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540651161.jpg?v=1757455359"},{"product_id":"magnetism-book-hans-siegmann-9783540302827","title":"Magnetism","description":"This text book gives a comprehensive account of magnetism, one of the oldest yet most vibrant fields of physics. In addition to summarizing developments in this new field of research the book also discusses magnetism applying synchrotron radiation. In short, the book reviews the fundamental physical concepts of the subject and uses them in a coherent fashion to explain some of the problems and applications at the forefront of magnetism. The theory is applied to Fano resonances in low-dimensional semiconductors and the Zener breakdown in superlattices. Comparing theoretical results with experiments, the book is essentially self-contained; it is a hands-on approach with detailed derivations, worked examples, illustrative figures, and computer programs. The field contains the most important subjects in solid state physics, chemical physics, and electronic engineering. Microscopic studies of magneto-optics stem from those of ligand-field spectra of paramagnetic ions in solids and liquids, which are also well known to have brought developments in material research for solid-state lasers. As the introductory chapter of this monograph, Chap. 1 deals with the fundamental properties of ligand-field spectra in useful solids. Chapter 2 is on elementary excitations such as magnons and excitons in magnetically ordered crystals, a central aspect of recent developments in microscopic magneto- optics. Chapter 3 concerns Raman spectroscopy accompanying magnetic ex- citations of high energies in strongly correlated electron systems, which are related to high Tc superconductors. Chapter 4 is on recent developments in the studies of non-linear optical effects, citing experiments for Cr20 and de- 3 scribing a microscopic theory for its second harmonic generation. In Chap. 5, after introducing a phenomenological theory of the Faraday and Kerr effects, we present a microscopic theory based on the ligand-field theory and discuss the future developments. Chapter 6 concerns diluted magnetic semiconduc- tors, discussing formation, magnetic properties, and quantum confinement effects of magnetic polarons. The 1991 winter school was again organized in cooperation with the Bundesministerium fUr Wissenschaft und Forschung in Austria, and with the Bundesministerium fUr Forschung und Technologie in the Federal Republic of Germany. The basic idea of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for experienced scientists from universities and industry to discuss their most re- cent results and for students and young scientists to become familiar with the present status of research and applications in the field. Like the previous winter schools on polymers, this one concentrated on the electronic structure and potential for application of polymers with conjugated double bonds. This time, however, special attention was paid to the effects of orientation and dimensionality. Anisotropy of the electric conductivity in stretch-oriented samples and whether the transport mechanisms are one-, two-, or three-dimensional or might even have a fractal dimensionality were there- fore central topics. The problem of orientation was extended to systems such as Langmuir-Blodgett films and other layered structures. Accordingly, thin films were the focus of most of the application oriented contributions. Whereas in the previous winter schools discussions on applications dealt with large volume applications such as electromagnetic shielding and energy storage, this time molecular materials for electronics and prospects of molecular electronics were at the center of interest.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52141523730705,"sku":"NLS9783642847073","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642847073.jpg?v=1757577313"},{"product_id":"point-contact-spectroscopy-book-yug-naidyuk-9781441919380","title":"Point-Contact Spectroscopy","description":"The main goal of solid-state physics is investigation of the properties of the matter including the mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic, and so on with the aim of developing new materials with defined characteristics. Nowadays, the synthesis of superconductors with high critical temperature it consists of or fabrication of new heterostructures on the base of semiconductors, in cre- ation of layered, amorphous, organic, or nanofabricated structures and many others. To do all of these, the various methods of investigation are developed during the past. Because it is impossible to find an universal method to in- vestigate a variety of materials, which are either conducting or insulating, crystalline or amorphous, thin-layered or bulk, magnetic or segnetoelectric, and so on, various kind of spectroscopies, like optical, neutron, electron, tun- nel and so on, are widely used in solid-state physics. Recently, a new type of spectroscopy, namely, the Point-Contact Spectroscopy (PCS), was designed for study of the conduction-electron interaction mechanism with a whole class of elementary excitations in the solids. In PCS, a small constriction, about a few nanometers large, between two conductors plays a role of a spectrome- ter.
