Author Qing Tian operationalizes the concept of sustainability and provides useful scientific analyses for sustainable development in less developed rural areas that are vulnerable to climatic hazards. The book uses a new sustainability framework that is centered on the concept of well-being to study rural development in PLR. The PLR study includes three major analyses: (1) a regional assessment of human well-being; (2) an empirical analysis of rural livelihoods; and (3) an agent-based computer model used to explore future rural development. These analyses provide a meaningful view of human development in the Poyang Lake Region and illustrate some of the complex local- and macro-level processes that shape the livelihoods of rural households in the dynamic process of urbanization. They generate useful insights about how government policy might effectively improve the well-being of rural households and promote sustainable development amid social, economic, and environmental changes. This case study has broader implications. Rural populations in the developing world are disproportionally affected by extreme climate events and climate change. Furthermore, the livelihoods of rural households in the developing world are increasingly under the influences of macro-level forces amid urbanization and globalization. This case study demonstrates that rural development policies must consider broader development dynamics at the national (and even global) level, as well as specific local social and environmental contexts. By treating climate as one of many factors that affect development in such places, we can provide policy recommendations that synergistically promotedevelopment and reduce climatic impacts and therefore facilitate mainstreaming climate adaptation into development.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49736993571089,"sku":"NGR9783319526843","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52340972454161,"sku":"NLS9783319526843","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3319526847.jpg?v=1751157771"},{"product_id":"philosophy-of-geo-ontologies-book-timothy-tambassi-9783030781446","title":"The Philosophy of Geo-Ontologies","description":"Placed at the intersection among philosophy, geography, and computer science, the domain of investigation of applied ontology of geography ranges from making explicit assumptions and commitments of geography as a discipline, to the theoretical and technical needs of geographical\/IT tools, such as GIS and geo-ontologies. Such a domain of investigation represents the central topic of discussion of this book, which intends: 1) to provide an overview of the mutual interactions among the disciplines encompassed in the domain; 2) to discuss notions such as spatial representation, boundaries, and geographical entities that constitute the main focus of the (philosophical) ontology of geography; 3) to propose a geographical classification of geo-ontologies in response to their increasing diffusion within the contemporary debate, as well as to show what ontological categories best systematize their contents. The second edition of the book differs from the first one as it offers a broader analysis of the (philosophical) ontology of geography: an analysis that is no more limited to the theoretical need of geo-ontologies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51060271743249,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51060274692369,"sku":"NIN9783030781446","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52152578900241,"sku":"NGR9783030781446","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52616315699473,"sku":"NLS9783030781446","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3030781445.jpg?v=1751157858"},{"product_id":"urban-green-spaces-book-viniece-jennings-9783030104689","title":"Urban Green Spaces","description":"This book crosses disciplinary boundaries to investigate how the benefits of green spaces can be further incorporated in public health. In this regard, the book highlights how ecosystem services provided by green spaces affect multiple aspects of human health and well-being, offering a strategic way to conceptualize the topic.   For centuries, scholars have observed the range of health benefits associated with exposure to nature. As people continue to move to urban areas, it is essential to include green spaces in cities to ensure sustained human health and well-being. Such insights can not only advance the science but also spark interdisciplinary research and help researchers creatively translate their findings into benefits for the public. The book explores this topic in the context of ‘big picture’ frameworks that enhance communication between the environmental, public health, and social sciences.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51061864726801,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51061867315473,"sku":"NIN9783030104689","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3030104680.jpg?v=1750729054"},{"product_id":"sustainable-renovation-of-buildings-book-pilar-mercader-moyano-9783031151422","title":"Sustainable Renovation of Buildings","description":"The book provides a complete vision about Spanish sustainable renovation of buildings situation at this moment, analysing legal and technological context and opportunities that economic stimulus —by means of direct aids— and the use of BIM methodologies offers a standardization of high scale interventions. Nowadays, BIM models let us integrate multiple quantitative parameters that can agile the information to interchange between stakeholders. Using this potential to standardize protocols of interventions and share knowledge is necessary to face a high scale intervention that our cities need. Climatic Emergency and socioeconomic crisis caused by recent events —COVID-19 and hydrocarbons crisis— are the two principal struggles we face as society. European Politics, embodied by National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) developed by each region give the way to the green transition of different productive sectors. Our building stock is responsible for approximately 36% of the CO2 emissions in the European Union. For this reason, these policies focus a large part of their efforts on economically incentivizing a new development model for the building sector that is committed to the large-scale renovation of the existing real estate stock and that, through the reduction of energy demand and of emissions, manage to reduce the environmental impact of these. Next Generation EU is the new recovery instrument that aims to mobilize investments towards strategic sectors for the reorientation of the production model that, among other measures, contributes to decarbonization through the promotion of energy efficiency and the deployment of renewable energies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51062944137489,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51062947217681,"sku":"NIN9783031151422","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52152845205777,"sku":"NGR9783031151422","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52664674713873,"sku":"NLS9783031151422","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031151429.jpg?v=1751157932"},{"product_id":"smart-cities-in-asia-book-thanh-phan-9789811917004","title":"Smart Cities in Asia","description":"This open access book examines different aspects of smart cities, including technology, urban development, sustainable development, finance, and privacy and data protection. This book introduces this advanced approach, which provides large-scale, high-accuracy, and high-density measurements of street-level urban features—key to understanding urban radiation balance and thermal dynamics. By leveraging GSV images, this method directly characterizes urban streetscapes, including structural and geometric attributes, allowing for a comprehensive assessment. Moreover, the methods can be applied to any geographical location covered by GSV, making it a low-cost and effective tool for urban studies globally. This is particularly advantageous compared to traditional 3D-GIS models, which may not always be freely available or as extensive in coverage as GSV images. Lessons from Street Sensing provide data-driven insights for urban planning and governance. The accurate mapping of street view factors and solar irradiance helps identify areas with insufficient greenery, excessive or insufficient solar exposure, and other urban environment issues. These insights can help policymakers and urban planners mitigate negative environmental impacts and improve urban living conditions.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728248340753,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728248766737,"sku":"NGR9783031920042","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/303192004X.jpg?v=1750999445"},{"product_id":"maps-as-media-constructs-book-helena-atteneder-9783031807060","title":"Maps as Media Constructs","description":"This book fills a gap in the market by taking an introductory look at cartographic representations as multimedia constructs, from theory to critique to neopragmatist perspectives and in practice. China's central authorities have recently issued a masterplan for constructing the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone at Hengqin Island in September 2021. As China's first and last European colony and one of China’s two special administrative regions (SARs), Macao has developed the gambling industry seven times larger than that of Las Vegas. However, the problem of the homogeneous industrial structure and the urgent need to promote sustainable economic growth by regional cooperation have been important theoretical and practical issues discussed by scholars and policy-makers. The Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone (ICZ) is managed under special customs supervision between two boarder lines and expected to diversify Macao’s economy. Then, this book dissects the theory of regional synergistic development and its applications in a number of international comparative and cross-interdisciplinary case studies worldwide. Finally, from the perspective of land use, transportation connection, and social service, this book thoroughly explores the challenges and strategies to implement the new cooperation model within the framework of one country, two systems, two customs, and two currencies to achieve a win–win situation using updated first-hand data collected by literature review, case study, field survey, spatial analysis, and interview.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52117745762577,"sku":"NGR9789811980602","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52669436199185,"sku":"NLS9789811980602","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789811980602.jpg?v=1757370972"},{"product_id":"israel-s-invisible-negev-bedouin-book-deborah-f-shmueli-9783319168197","title":"Israel's Invisible Negev Bedouin","description":"This Brief provides a contextual framework for exploring the settlement rights of Israel's Bedouin population of the Negev desert, a traditionally pastoral nomadic Arab population. In 1948, the Israeli government relocated this population from the Negev region to settlements in Siyag. The explicit aim was to control the Negev area for security purposes, sedentarize a nomadic people, and to improve their living conditions and bring them into the modern economy. Since then, many of the Bedouin population have continued to urbanize, moving into smaller towns and cities, while some remain in the settlement. The Israeli government's has recently proposed a new settlement policy towards the Bedouin population, that would expel many from their current homes, which came into recent controversy with the UN Human Rights commission, causing it to be withdrawn. Israel as a whole has very complex social, cultural, and political fabric with territorial uncertainties. This Brief aims to provide an overview of the current situation, provide a theoretical, historical and legal context, explore barriers to implementation of previously proposed policies, and provide potential solutions to improve individual and collective stability and balance the cultural and territorial needs of the Bedouin population with the larger goals of the Israeli government. This work will be of interest to researchers studying Israel specifically, as well as researchers in urban planning, public policy, and issues related to indigenous populations and human rights.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52123869544721,"sku":"NLS9783319168197","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319168197.jpg?v=1757453722"},{"product_id":"abandonment-as-a-social-fact-book-anita-de-franco-9783030903664","title":"Abandonment as a Social Fact","description":"This book provides a multidisciplinary approach for the study of the abandonment problem at the inter-section among urban studies, neo-institutionalist perspectives, and social ontology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52125034742033,"sku":"NLS9783030903664","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030903664.jpg?v=1757461404"},{"product_id":"contractual-communities-in-the-self-organising-city-book-grazia-brunetta-9789400728585","title":"Contractual Communities in the Self-Organising City","description":"Both land-use regulation and territorial collective services have traditionally been accomplished in cities through coercive efforts of public administrations. A conceptual model, Integrated Policy Assessment Theory for Renewable Energy, is given and justified for renewable energy development in the Valley. Further, Central Place Theory, well known in urban geography, is discussed and it is seen to be very relevant to the understanding the Coachella Valley’s city sizes and renewable energy markets, compared to the greater Los Angeles region. The book’s research methods include geospatial mapping and analysis and interviews leaders in small innovative firms, government agencies, and nonprofits.  The many findings of the book include evaluation of how the Valley’s socioeconomic and transportation features influence renewable energy development, the scope of markets for solar and wind energy in theValley, spatial confluences of renewable energy facilities with other features, and the future potential of ground-source heat pumps. Benchmark comparison of the Coachella Valley is done with two leading wind and solar regions elsewhere in the country, to assess the Valley’s evolution and opportunities in renewable energy.  The book concludes by evaluating the prospects and problems for the growth of renewable entrepreneurship, manufacturing, assembly, and operations in Coachella Valley. This leads to policy recommendations grounded in the book’s research findings, which are intended for use by governments, businesses, and nonprofits. The hope is that many of the developmental experiences from the Coachella Valley will be helpful not only within the Valley but to other communities nationwide and worldwide.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148181795089,"sku":"NLS9783319515250","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319515250.jpg?v=1757602842"},{"product_id":"reconsidering-welfare-policies-in-times-of-crisis-book-ombretta-caldarice-9783319686219","title":"Reconsidering Welfare Policies in Times of Crisis","description":"This book offers a European perspective on spatial planning and welfare policies in relation to the new conditions derived from the current urban crisis. The book deals with research and policy issues stemming from the fact that in the last ten years European cities have been affected by a structural crisis, not only financial but also a social, environmental and spatial, leading to an economic collapse. The crisis and its consequences due to political, financial and social conflicts contribute to increasing a city’s complexity in terms of decrease of public finance, slowdowns in the real estate market, economic stagnation and the reduction of the consolidated welfare policies. In light of this, this book proposes to reframe European urban welfare towards a “framework-rule” perspective. It is based on new rules and responsibilities as a path to change that would enable cities to respond to new circumstances through innovative actions thanks to co-production. The book focuses on the potential of this approach, identifying innovative perspectives for researchers, institutions and practitioners in the field of urban and regional planning. It also addresses the growth of civic initiatives all over Europe in which citizens and private business are engaged for the self-delivery of urban facilities, while jointly identifying issues and needs, and trying to solve problems with innovative and inclusive responses. This book will appeal to students and researchers along with a professional and policy audience due to the topical nature of the contents.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148542275857,"sku":"NLS9783319686219","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319686219.jpg?v=1757603893"},{"product_id":"ground-penetrating-radar-and-magnetometry-for-buried-landscape-analysis-book-lawrence-b-conyers-9783319708898","title":"Ground-penetrating Radar and Magnetometry for Buried Landscape Analysis","description":"This book presents the integrated use of magnetometry and ground-penetrating radar geophysical mapping to understand the human presence within buried archaeological landscapes. Ground-penetrating radar can be used to identify buried living surfaces, geological stratigraphy and the architectural remains of sites in three-dimensions. Magnetometry can produce images denoting differences on the composition of those materials, both anthropogenic and natural, but with more limited three-dimensional resolution. The integration of the two has a unique ability to resolve and interpret these buried materials, differentiated between the human-caused and natural layers, and place all buried features within historic landscapes. The final product of geophysical integration, along with some limited subsurface testing, produces a holistic analysis of human adaptations to, and modifications of, the ancient landscape. Examples are shown from sites in Roman Croatia and Britain, Medieval Ireland, Colonial Connecticut, and an Archaic site in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. These examples from very different environments, time periods and cultural groups illustrate how the integrated geophysical methodology can interpret, on a scale approaching many hectares, the ancient landscapes within which people lived.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148958462225,"sku":"NLS9783319708898","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319708898.jpg?v=1757605226"},{"product_id":"resilient-governance-of-urban-redevelopment-book-bin-li-9789819929276","title":"Resilient Governance of Urban Redevelopment","description":"To examine the origins, characteristics, and outcomes of resilient governance with Chinese characteristics, this open access book takes Guangzhou, a typical Chinese city from 1990 to 2015, as an example. They need to invent, develop and manage new reasons for their existence. The strengths and opportunities are often underplayed when compared to larger cities. These small cities do not have the profile of New York, London, Tokyo or Cairo, or second-tier cities like San Francisco, Manchester, Osaka or Alexandria. This book traces the current state of the creative industries literature after the GFC, but with a specific focus. The specific - and worsening - conditions in third-tier cities are logged. The social and economic challenges within these regions are great, particularly with regard to health and health services, education, employment, social mobility and physical activity. This is not a study that merely diagnoses problems but raises strategies for third-tier cities to create both a profile and growth. The current research field is synthesized to reveal how cities are defined, constituted, developed and, in many cases, suffering decline. There is an imperative to build relationships with other urban environments. The book enters these under-discussed locations and reveal the scarred layering of injustice, signified by depopulation, dis-investment, economic decline and a reduction in public services for health, transportation and education, while also developing specific and innovative models for improvement. The vista summoned in Unique Urbanity is international, with strong attention to trans-local strategies that offer wide relevance, currency and opportunities for policy makers. While third-tier cities are often hidden, marginalized, invisible or demeaned, Unique Urbanity shows that innovation, imagination and creativity can emerge in small places.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52151381360913,"sku":"NLS9789812872685","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789812872685.jpg?v=1757613142"},{"product_id":"ocean-governance-book-yen-chiang-chang-9789400727618","title":"Ocean Governance","description":"While the traditional approaches might not be able to solve the complexity of the ocean governance issues, there is a need to adopt a new way of thinking in order to deal with the current problems.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52332977324305,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52332977979665,"sku":"NLS9789400727618","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789400727618.jpg?v=1758153297"},{"product_id":"environmental-impacts-of-shale-gas-development-in-china-book-meiyu-guo-9789811604898","title":"Environmental Impacts of Shale Gas Development in China","description":"This book features a comprehensive analysis of the development of shale gas resources in China, with a focus on the potential environmental impacts that may result. China has the world’s largest shale gas resources, which it is keen to develop to alleviate air pollution and successfully transition to a low-carbon energy future. However, one significant obstacle standing between the ambition and reality is the potentially serious environmental impacts of shale gas production.     This book offers a systematic assessment of these potential impacts, including the risk of water contamination, ecological disruption due to the huge consumption of water and methane leakage. It presents valuable first-hand data collected from the authors’ fieldwork in Sichuan and Chongqing and the latest information on China’s current shale gas operations and also includes a set of models and methods developed to quantify the impacts. It allows readers to gain a deeper understanding of environmental regulatory management systems regarding shale gas production in China by examining whether the existing monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems and environmental regulations can effectively prevent adverse impacts from shale gas production. Providing a detailed study of shale gas development in China based on an unprecedented primary dataset, the book is a valuable resource for scholars, engineers and students who are interested in the energy development and environmental risks.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52333466386705,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52333466779921,"sku":"NLS9789811604898","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789811604898.jpg?v=1758154863"},{"product_id":"building-a-compact-city-book-meng-wang-9783030912819","title":"Building a Compact City","description":"This book serves as a solid ground for seeking strategies to build the compact city that situated in a specific local area, based on the systematic examination of the effects of spatial planning system on urbanization control. The book first illustrates the interplay between networks and narratives in the construction of cosmopolitan communities in three specific cities: Trieste, Odessa and Tbilisi. Each has a past more cosmopolitan than the present and each uses that cosmopolitan past to guide them towards the future. Next, the book focuses on narrative dynamics by isolating several discourses on the cosmopolitan place and figure in European cultural history. It then goes on to detail the internal representations and local functions of larger wholes in smaller communities, shedding a new light on issues of inter- disciplinary interest: self- governance, participation, local knowledge, social memory, scale, planning and development. Of interest to political scientists, anthropologists, economists, geographers and philosophers, this book offers an insightful contribution to theories of globalization and global\/ local interaction, bringing the local discursive mechanics into sharper focus and also emphasizing the semi- autonomous character of narrative constructions of self and community in a larger world.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52338560532753,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52338561122577,"sku":"NLS9783319190297","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319190297.jpg?v=1758168835"},{"product_id":"vehicular-air-pollution-and-urban-sustainability-book-mary-j-thornbush-9783319206561","title":"Vehicular Air Pollution and Urban Sustainability","description":"This Brief examines the impact of the Oxford Transport Strategy in central Oxford as a means of assessing the effect of reduced traffic congestion in the city centre on its sustainability. Air pollution (from vehicular traffic) has been monitored at three locations in central Oxford on the High Street, St Aldates and St Ebbes (background monitoring station). There is a further monitoring site situated in East Oxford, but this one is not considered to be central. Based on long-term monitoring at these monitoring stations, a deliberation of urban sustainability is presented. Implications are considered for long-term planning and green design in particular is part of the discussion. More specifically, urban greening strategies are presented as (soft engineering) approaches to controlling air pollution problems at this urban location. In the context of low carbon cities, green walls are assessed as they affect urban greening and energy conservation, as they enhance insulation on the exterior of solid wall buildings. Urban sustainability is best monitored using decades of data rather than just years. The Oxford Transport Strategy (OTS) was implemented in central Oxford, UK in 2001 and now a record of at least a decade of monitoring data is available for such a longer-term assessment. This work revisits the OTS from long after its implementation in the Oxford city centre and specifically examines the impact of reduced traffic congestion on sustainability. This includes address of traffic congestion, air pollution (from vehicular or traffic pollution) and the effects on the urban environment, including buildings. In parallel to this, the role of urban vegetation is considered as a sink for a variety of pollutants. Green walls, as part of urban greening, have implications for low carbon cities in the context of urban heat islands and global warming.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52338667749649,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52338671845649,"sku":"NLS9783319206561","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319206561.jpg?v=1758168933"},{"product_id":"spatiotemporal-processes-of-plant-phenology-book-xiaoqiu-chen-9783662498378","title":"Spatiotemporal Processes of Plant Phenology","description":"This book deals with phenology, the study of recurring biological life cycle stages, and especially their timing and relationships with biotic and abiotic forces.  Given the theoretical and methodological innovations involved, the chapters on defining spatiotemporal patterns of plant phenology and constructing daily temperature-based temporal\/spatial models and process-based regional unified models will be of particular interest.  Helping readers discover and explore plant phenology’s perspectives in terms of spatiotemporal patterns, processes and mechanisms, the book will also equip young scientists and graduate students to understand the causes of spatiotemporal variation in vegetation seasonality.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52348908896529,"sku":"NLS9783662498378","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783662498378.jpg?v=1758178819"},{"product_id":"urban-planning-for-healthy-european-cities-book-rosalba-d-onofrio-9783319711430","title":"Urban Planning for Healthy European Cities","description":"This book investigates different aspects of the relationship between healthy cities and urban planning, examining various best practices in Europe. Booming mineral and gas development is also helping to drive the nation’s economic success. At the same time, the south’s conservation sector would like to see much of the north preserved as iconic wilderness. Both conservation and resource development interests alike are often at odds with the interests of the north’s traditional owners, many of whom remain trapped in welfare dependency and poverty. Indeed, to the ire of north Australians, the past five decades of north Australian history have indeed been characterized by these national-scale conflicts being played out in regional and local communities. This book explores these conflicts as well as the many emerging opportunities facing the development of the north, suggesting that a strong cultural divide between northern and southern Australia exists; one that needs to be reconciled if the nation as a whole is to benefit from northern development. The author first explores where these historical conflicts could take us without a clear forward agenda. Its interdisciplinary approach allows the geomorphological analysis of rock weathering to be combined with the impacts on the cultural record, its interpretation, and management. In particular, by examining the impacts of air pollution on the weathering of these cultural markers, cross-temporal assessments can provide valuable information concerning the condition of the record and its sustainability potential as monuments of cultural heritage. Churchyards located in urban settings have grown in interest for the purposes of heritage conservation research. Specifically, headstones represent part of the historical and archaeological record and are recognised as a component of historical archaeology. They are also now approached from the standpoint of heritage conservation, either as monuments or cultural stoneas well as being part of necrogeography through their address of burial and stone decay. In this brief, headstones located in parish churchyards in England and Scotland, as part of the Anglican record for the Church of England and the Presbyterian record for the Church of Scotland, were examined using non-destructive methods based on field observations since preliminary research in 2006 as part of a decadal scale (long-term) study. This multisite investigation captures the record since the 17th century, and mainly comprises limestone (England) and sandstone (Scotland) headstone markers that still remain upright. Most studied headstones appear before the 19th century, when this study’s temporal focus terminates. Seriations performed on the available record have revealed trends in style based on inscriptions, epitaphs, and motifs as well as quantified dimensions, shapes, and more. This study represents an attempt to pictorially record cultural stone and to observe cross-temporal and spatial change at various scales. As such, it offers a valuable resource for practitioners, e.g. conservators and archaeologists, as well as for students and researchers.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52418470412561,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418471067921,"sku":"NGR9783319763620","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319763620.jpg?v=1758929266"},{"product_id":"planning-and-design-perspectives-for-land-take-containment-book-benedetta-giudice-9783030910655","title":"Planning and Design Perspectives for Land Take Containment","description":"Chapter1. The kernel of this study was whether, how and to what extent applying the various remotely sensed data that were used here, would be an effective approach to classify the historical and current land use\/land cover, to monitor the dynamics of land use\/land cover during the last four decades, to map the development of the irrigation areas, and to classify the major strategic winter- and summer-irrigated agricultural crops in the study area of the Euphrates River Basin.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52455923613969,"sku":"NLS9783319006239","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319006239.jpg?v=1759375746"},{"product_id":"adaptation-to-coastal-storms-in-atlantic-canada-book-liette-vasseur-9783319634913","title":"Adaptation to Coastal Storms in Atlantic Canada","description":"The analysis covered a large multisite longitudinal project, where a participatory action research (PAR) approach was used to understand how people in 10 coastal communities perceive and experience extreme weather events and to enhance their capacity to adapt and improve their resilience.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52473447907601,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52473449677073,"sku":"NLS9783319634913","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319634913.jpg?v=1759840043"},{"product_id":"will-miami-survive-book-kathleen-sullivan-sealey-9783319790190","title":"Will Miami Survive?","description":"While the need to integrate financial markets into coastal (and environmental) management is increasingly recognized, the difficulty of this task is made greater by the speed of financial innovation and the obscurity and complexity of its practices.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52476649668881,"sku":"NLS9783319790190","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52760999723281,"sku":"NIN9783319790190","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319790190.jpg?v=1759844390"},{"product_id":"understanding-spatial-temporal-patterns-of-the-ethnic-minority-mobility-in-china-book-gaoxiang-li-9789811630200","title":"Understanding Spatial-Temporal Patterns of the Ethnic Minority Mobility in China’s Urbanization","description":"This book discusses the urbanization of China and identifies four major features of ethnic minority mobility partners over the last twenty years: the three-stage peripheral-to-core transition pattern; the escalating decline of the urban minority population in the central region of China, particularly since 2000; the city agglomerations located in the eastern region of China, which have begun playing a leading role in minority urbanization, especially in the Yangtze and Pearl River Delta; and lastly, the continuous beneficiaries of supportive policies that have led metropolises, such as provincial capitals, to be shaped into important regional minority population concentrations in both China’s western region and its autonomous areas. Presenting the first comprehensive, retrospective study on the evolution of the spatial-temporal distribution of ethnic groups, focusing on Chinese urbanization on a national scale and based on the three most recent national censuses, the book provides insights into Chinese urbanization processes and their inter\/intra-relating mechanisms in ethnic minority areas. Given its scope, it is a valuable resource for scholars, policy and – ultimately – decision-makers wanting to improve the processes of sustainable and inclusive urbanization in China.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52480968392977,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52480969605393,"sku":"NLS9789811630200","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789811630200.jpg?v=1759851024"},{"product_id":"cities-and-mega-cities-book-frederic-r-siegel-9783319931654","title":"Cities and Mega-Cities","description":"This book discusses existing and future global problems of physical, chemical, biological and societal origins faced by increasingly populated cities and mega-cities, and options to mitigate or eliminate them.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52482670231825,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52482671345937,"sku":"NLS9783319931654","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319931654.jpg?v=1759853573"},{"product_id":"indigenous-geographies-in-the-yucatan-book-miguel-sioui-9783030603984","title":"Indigenous Geographies in the Yucatan","description":"This book is part of a broader attempt to decolonize colonial histories and understandings about Indigenous peoples and their relationships with their territories, and argues that the land ethos of \"being part of the land,\" specifically among the Mayan community of Xuilub (Yucatan), Mexico, is guided by the cultural precept of 'responsibility-based' thinking. The work uniquely adds much needed insights into 'responsibility-based' thinking for land-use practices, and develops a theoretical framework for assessing historical impacts on Indigenous cultures and livelihoods. In six chapters, the text bridges Western and Indigenous Knowledge (IK) approaches to achieve deeper understanding of IKs, focusing on more Indigenous-centered methods, with the goal of expanding the disciplinary perspectives of postcolonial scholarship and Indigenous geographies. The debates included highlight a number of issues in the peri-urban context, such as access to water, appropriate technologies and land management, political economy in the peri-urban space, peri-urban agriculture, and place marketing in peri-urban development, among others. The debates raised by the authors in this book revolve around locating the peri-urban space within the context of sustainability, in which key issues are addressed. The book essentially examines peri-urban development processes from various angles in an effort to understand how peri-urban areas develop, function, and how their residents survive. Per-urban dwellers currently face numerous challenges, including land tenure insecurity, poor infrastructure and services, land use conflicts, stringent planning law and land use planning regulations. This work seeks to address the “knowledgegap” on peri-urban development processes in Africa, and is also intended to inform urban policy practice in the African Cities and beyond. Offering policy makers valuable insights on the peri-urban space, it provides guidance for decision-making in the contexts of service delivery, land management, housing, new town development and place marketing, among others.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52500828586257,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52500829241617,"sku":"NGR9783319342306","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}]},{"product_id":"americas-poorest-and-most-affluent-counties-1980-to-2010-book-wendy-shaw-9783030753399","title":"America’s Poorest and Most Affluent Counties, 1980 to 2010","description":"This book explores the changing spatial distribution of the United States of America's poorest and most affluent counties over the 30 years from 1980 to 2010. While overall rates of poverty have changed somewhat during this period, the geography of counties where affluence and poverty rates are the highest have also shifted as economic fortunes wax and wane. The spatial understanding of poverty and affluence is an important dimension of addressing the complex economic and social contexts within which poverty occurs, and which vary substantially depending on several factors. While there has been significant focus on poverty in the United States, including some analysis of its spatial characteristics, since the 1960s there has been relatively little research on the concomitant geography of affluence. The geographies of poverty and affluence analyzed in this book give a view of spatial economic segregation. Spatial aspects of both the poorest and most affluent counties are focused on, aswell as the changing gap and relative geographies between rich and poor over three decades.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52516449550609,"sku":"NLS9783030753399","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030753399.jpg?v=1760503040"},{"product_id":"planning-for-resilience-book-elena-pede-9783030172619","title":"Planning for Resilience","description":"Given the increasing uncertainty due to catastrophic climate events, terrorist attacks, and economic crises, this book addresses planning for resilience by focusing on sharing knowledge among policy-makers, urban planners, emergency teams and citizens. The book explores how resilience implies a change in planning practices, highlighting the need for flexibility in terms of procedures, and for dynamism in the knowledge systems and learning processes that are the main tools for interaction among different actors and scales.
