Warehouse Operative

As a Warehouse Operative, you will work efficiently and effectively as part of a team to achieve targets and job standards as set out by the Shift Leader or Assistant Shift Leader.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work as the role may involve doing a variety of jobs in the process such as the sorting of incoming goods, stacking and storage of goods and the picking and packing of items for dispatch to our customers.

Primary Responsibilities

Operational Requirements

  • In conjunction with the shift leaders and assistant shift leaders you will be multi-skilled across several processes including stock processing, picking, packing, dispatch and as a foreman.

Stock Processing

  • Responsible for processing incoming stock ensuring accuracy of placement within the correct tote.
  • Working to best practices and following documented procedures to ensure quality of books into tote locations.

Picking

  • Picking orders using a hand-held scanner or manual ticket process from storage totes and placing them at collection points.
  • Ensuring that totes are within regulation weight and not overfilled.

Packing

  • Packing orders in correct packaging and the placing of orders in the correct reciprocal in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring orders are packaged and labelled correctly to prevent returned orders/complaints.

Dispatch

  • Prioritising workload and ensuring products are dispatched on time and to specification.
  • Assist with data collection and monitor York fill rates prior to dispatch with collection drivers.

Foreman

  • Ensure the put-away process is carried out methodically and accurately in line with company guidelines.
  • Ensure the culling process is completed swiftly and accurately and the racking is cleaned during the process.

Facilities Management

  • Responsible for escalating any facilities related issues to the SL/ASL.

Security

  • To work effectively with onsite security.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure that your station and working area is clean at all times and to perform any additional cleaning duties as requested by your Shift Manager or Health and Safety advisor.
  • Comply with, and make positive contribution to, all company policy, rules and procedures for Health & Safety and current H&S legislation and best practice.
  • Ensure understanding and comply with all company policy, rules and procedures for Health & Safety and current H&S legislation and best practice.
  • Responsible for ensuring you have the correct PPE.

Team Manager

Ensure the smooth running of the full operation process and safe working practices within our fast-paced environment.

Responsible for maintaining and improving performance and productivity.

Ensure all KPI information is reported onto the correct systems accurately.

Primary Responsibilities

Receiving, scanning

  • Interpreting & fulfilling  sales orders for customers and productivity requirements.
  • Maintaining quality in line with guidelines set out.
  • Organising delivery schedules with the wholesale co-ordinator and ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
  • Co-ordinating the loading of shipments with external carriers when required.

  • Involvement in weekly wholesale meetings with the wholesale co-ordinator to retain focus on objectives.
  • Compiling and reporting daily production levels.
  • Reporting consumable levels to the wholesale co-ordinator.

Team Leader

  • Ensure all warehouse employees are fully trained and multi-skilled to carry out various roles and training records are update accordingly.
  • Undertake weekly/monthly 1-2-1 performance reviews in line with Team Leader direction.
  • Manage, support and create a structured development plan to address under performance.

Administration

  • Administrative duties as and when they are required.

Regional Transport Supervisor

This role is an important new appointment in the Logistics department intended to support the continued expansion of our Book Collection network.

Reporting directly to the Head of Stock and Logistics, the Regional Transport Supervisor, will be take responsibility for the efficient and cost-effective management of the Depot Supervisor, drivers and support staff at each World of Books depot.

This role is mobile and will require the incumbent to travel between 6+ WOB depots, the Coventry Processing Centre and Head Office in Goring-By-Sea. The successful applicant will be expected to significantly improve the logistics service provided to our charity partners whilst ensuring costs remain within budget.

As part of the Logistics Management team the successful applicant will be involved in defining and implementing future network strategy and as such will bring new initiatives to the table and be a team player providing support to the rest of the management team.

This role will give the successful applicant plenty of opportunity to impress and as the business continues to grow future development opportunities exist for the right applicant.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The safe operation of all transport activities across all World of Books depots, ensuring legal compliance with H&S legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Managing a fleet of 40+ vehicles, 40+ drivers along with depot supervisors and support staff at each individual site.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining depot service levels and KPI’s to control costs, increase efficiency and improve customer service
  • Work closely with the Transport/Fleet Manager and Transport team at Goring to control all aspects of driver management (recruitment/training/absence/discipline/accident prevention etc)

  • Play a major role in staff and fleet planning for peak periods and future expansion
  • Identify efficiencies and cost savings at each depot to control costs and improve service levels
  • Support the Head of Stock and Logistics in ensuring a best in class logistics function and implementation of new initiatives across the network ·

Requirements

The successful applicant will have previous logistics experience in a multi depot organisation.

A track record of providing high service levels whilst keeping a firm grip on costs is hugely important as is a experience of continuous improvement to drive depot operations forward.

Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a wider logistics management team, the successful applicant will build effective relationships across the organisation, be a team player who is not afraid to challenge current practices and suggest improvements to depot operations.

  • Previous experience in driver and fleet management
  • Managing 30+ drivers through the depot supervisors
  • Demonstrate knowledge of multi-site Transport operations, UK Distribution legislation and working best practice
  • Experience in providing a high level of customer service and how it impacts on the company’s relationships with its partners
  • Proven capability to think tactically and strategically to manage operational challenges and prepare medium to long term plans
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of health and safety and associated regulations in a logistics network (IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous but not essential)
  • Self-starter able to work autonomously, managing their diary effectively
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Experience of setting and reporting KPI’s
