Charleston Firsts by Mark R Jones

IN 2014 CHARLESTON WAS NAMED THE #1 CITY IN AMERICA BY CONDE NAST TRAVELER FOR THE 4TH YEAR IN A ROW Being FIRST is not out of the ordinary for this extraordinary city. Charleston has a long list of revolutionary events and pioneering accomplishments. If you've ever wondered why Charleston is called America's Most Historic City historian and tour guide, MARK R. JONES, gives you an in depth look at the most compelling reasons.

Mark R. Jones was born in South Carolina and is a ninth-generation South Carolinian. He is a licensed City of Charleston tour guide for Palmetto Carriage and Bulldog Walking Tours, where he leads daytime history and evening ghost excursions. Mark is also one of a small handful of guides who leads Bulldog's Dark Side of Charleston Tour, the tour that inspired the Wicked Charleston books. The Dark Side is Charleston's only non-ghost evening tour. Mark leads twenty excursions per week on average, for a total of one thousand per year.

Wicked Charleston: The Evil Side of the Holy City is his first book, and it tells the narrative of Charles Towne's creation from a unique perspective: drinking, prostitution, and murder. The Charleston Post and Courier dubbed the book a strong (if a little tipsy) basis for the upcoming celebration. Mark is always on the lookout for fresh juicy Charleston stories in his spare time. Mark's website, www.wickedcharleston.net, contains information about him, his books, tours, personal blog, and speaking engagements.
