By capturing the world press in the exciting discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in the early 1920s, he became an international star. With his newfound success, he wrote a series of wildly popular vignettes on English city and rural life, which sold millions of copies throughout the world. At the age of eighty-six, he died in South Africa in 1979.
