I Saw Two Englands by H V Morton

Published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, this wartime best-seller follows the author's travels around England in 1939, exploring the countryside and villages and recording his impressions of munitions factories, POW camps, black-outs and the Home Guard.

Henry Vollam Morton was born in Manchester, England, in 1892. By capturing the world press in the exciting discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in the early 1920s, he became an international star. With his newfound success, he wrote a series of wildly popular vignettes on English city and rural life, which sold millions of copies throughout the world. At the age of eighty-six, he died in South Africa in 1979.
