Physics of the Plasma Universe, 2nd Edition is an update of observations made across the entire cosmic electromagnetic spectrum over the two decades since the publication of the first edition. It addresses paradigm changing discoveries made by telescopes, planetary probes, satellites, and radio and space telescopes. The contents are the result of the author's 37 years research at Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories, and the U.S. Department of Energy.  This book covers topics such as the large-scale structure and the filamentary universe; the formation of magnetic fields and galaxies, active galactic nuclei and quasars, the origin and abundance of light elements, star formation and the evolution of solar systems, andcosmic rays. Chapters 8 and 9 are based on the research of Professor Gerrit Verschuur, and reinvestigation of the manifestation of interstellar neutral hydrogen filaments from radio astronomical observations are given. Using data from the Green Bank 100-m telescope (GBT) of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), detailed information is presented for a non-cosmological origin for the cosmic microwave background quadruple moment.  This volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers active in the areas of cosmic plasmas and space science.  The supercomputer and experimental work was carried out within university, National laboratory, Department of Energy, and supporting NASA facilities.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51027657490705,"sku":"NIN9781461478188","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52406134309137,"sku":"NLS9781461478188","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/B01EQ81NYI.jpg?v=1751404741"},{"product_id":"physics-of-the-plasma-universe-book-anthony-l-peratt-9781493936946","title":"Physics of the Plasma Universe","description":"Today many scientists recognize plasma as the key element to understanding new observations in near-Earth, interplanetary, interstellar, and intergalactic space; in stars, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies, and throughout the observable universe. The Workshop was sponsored by the NSF Division of Atmospheric Sciences, NASA Headquarters, Space Physics Division, and the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. It was the purpose of the Workshop to update topics in Plasma Astrophysics and Cosmology presented at the First IEEE International Workshop on Plasma Cosmology, La Jolla, California, 20-22 February 1989, and to again bring together observers and theorists to discuss the related links between plasma theory and observation. Another goal of the Workshop and these proceedings was to highlight the Centennial Celebration (1896-1996) of the founding of Plasma Astrophysics and Cosmology and several papers are devoted to the history of this field of science.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52352128581905,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52352132219153,"sku":"NLS9789401041812","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789401041812.jpg?v=1758181636"},{"product_id":"plasma-astrophysics-and-cosmology-book-anthony-l-peratt-9780792337843","title":"Plasma Astrophysics and Cosmology","description":"Today many scientists recognize plasma as the key element in understanding new observations in interplanetary and interstellar space, in stars, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies, and throughout the observable universe. Plasma astrophysics and cosmology, as a unified discipline, cover topics such as the large-scale structure and filamentation of the universe; the microwave background; the formation of galaxies and magnetic fields; active galactic nuclei and quasars; the origin and abundance of light elements; star formation and the evolution of solar systems; redshift periodicities and anomalous redshifts; general relativity; electric fields; the acceleration of charged particles to high energies; and cosmic rays. This text provides an update on the observations made in radio, optical and high-energy astrophysics, especially since 1985, and addresses the paradigm changing discoveries made by the planetary probes and satellites, radio telescopes, and the Hubble space telescope. Over 20 contributors, all distinguished plasma scientists, present a picture of the nature of our plasma universe with articles ranging from the popular level to advanced topics in plasma cosmology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52664592826641,"sku":"NLS9780792337843","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52740060021009,"sku":"NIN9780792337843","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780792337843.jpg?v=1762275016"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-ie\/collections\/author-books-by-anthony-l-peratt.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
