Cryptic visitants arrive in the form of Gilgamesh, “searching for a way to stay in pain forever”; a grandmother mending socks, “her face in the dark unchanging”; Emily Dickinson, lingering at her window; a lion cub, asleep in ice for millennia.  With each comes a critique of the Anthropocene, our drive to possess the unpossessable. With each comes also the discovery of what—and who—we’ve harmed in the discovering. Ice shelves collapse. Climate change melts layers of permafrost to reveal a severed wolf’s head. A pair of grease-smudged reading glasses calls up a mother’s phantom. “I am sorry \/ for the parts you gave me \/ that I’ve misshapen,” Keplinger writes.  So is there “a point to all this singing”? Our ancestors cannot answer. The wolf’s head can’t, either. But sometimes, “out of the snow of confusion,” something answers, “saying gorgeous things like yes.” And the flowers “open up \/ their small green trumpets anyway.”","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49751314399505,"sku":"NGR9781639550166","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50330692649233,"sku":"CIN163955016XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50609573363985,"sku":"CIN163955016XVG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51042792046865,"sku":"NIN9781639550166","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52671797788945,"sku":"NLS9781639550166","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/163955016X.jpg?v=1751444422"},{"product_id":"prayers-of-others-book-david-keplinger-9781930974630","title":"The Prayers of Others","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50330692190481,"sku":"CIN1930974639G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50402622898449,"sku":"CIN1930974639A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1930974639.jpg?v=1750770787"},{"product_id":"most-natural-thing-book-david-keplinger-9781936970155","title":"The Most Natural Thing","description":"Poetry. THE MOST NATURAL THING is like a series of x-rays symmetrical square boxes made of language, in which language is describing the anatomy of one body, and this body becomes a container of information about science, myth, memory, history, and dream. Think about a community of trees all sharing one clump of tangled roots underground, a kind of heart though above ground they seem to be separate entities. The book looks at what is separate on the surface and tries throughout to find that tangled heart.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50403048980753,"sku":"CIN1936970155G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1936970155.jpg?v=1750804427"},{"product_id":"world-to-come-book-david-keplinger-9781733602051","title":"The World to Come","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50663576928529,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50663578337553,"sku":"CIN1733602054G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1733602054.jpg?v=1750897462"},{"product_id":"another-city-book-david-keplinger-9781571314864","title":"Another City","description":"WINNER OF THE UNT RILKE PRIZE  How does it feel to experience another city? To stand beneath tall buildings, among the countless faces of a crowd? To attempt to be heard above the din?  The poems of Another City travel inward and outward at once: into moments of self-reproach and grace, and to those of disassociation and belonging. From experiences defined by an urban landscape—a thwarted customer at the door of a shuttered bookstore in Crete, a chance encounter with a might-have-been lover in Copenhagen—to the streets themselves, where “an alley was a comma in the agony’s grammar,” in David Keplinger’s hands startling images collide and mingle like bodies on a busy thoroughfare.  Yet Another City deftly spans not only the physical space of global cities, but more intangible and intimate distances: between birth and death, father and son, past and present, metaphor and reality. In these poems, our entry into the world is when “the wound, called loneliness, \/ opens,” and our voyage out of it is through a foreign but not entirely unfamiliar constellations of cities: Cherbourg, Manila, Port-au-Prince.  This is a rich portrait of the seemingly incommunicable expanses between people, places, and ideas—and the ability of a poem to transcend the void.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51037202645265,"sku":"NIN9781571314864","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51417404145937,"sku":"CIN1571314865VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51423971115281,"sku":"CIN1571314865G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":52816583131409,"sku":"CIN1571314865A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1571314865.jpg?v=1751341247"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-ie\/collections\/author-books-by-david-keplinger.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
