While a client may seem to make significant breakthroughs in understanding their feelings and experiences on a rational level by talking with a therapist, this will make no difference to their post-traumatic symptoms if the midbrain is unable to modulate its activity in response. The Comprehensive Resource Model argues for a novel therapeutic approach, which uniquely bridges neuroscience and spirituality through a combination of somatic therapy, traditional psychotherapy, and indigenous healing concepts to provide effective relief to survivors of trauma. The Comprehensive Resource Model was developed in response to the need for a streamlined, integrative therapeutic model; one which engages a scaffolding of neurobiological resources in many brain structures simultaneously in order for clients to be fully embodied and conscious in the present moment while processing their traumatic material. All three phases of trauma therapy: resourcing, processing, and integration are done simultaneously. Demonstrating a nested model and employing brain and body-based physiological safety as the foundation of healing, chapters describe three primary categories of targeted processing: implicit and explicit survival terror, ‘Little T Truths’, and ‘Big T Truths’, all of which contribute to thorough healing of complex trauma and an expansion into higher states of consciousness and embodiment of the essential core self. This book describes the development and benefits of this pioneering new approach to trauma therapy. As such, it will be of key interest to academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychology and trauma studies. It will also appeal to practising therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, and to others involved in the treatment or management of patients with complex trauma disorders.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49621990572305,"sku":"GOR010641918","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50322335891729,"sku":"CIN1138579726VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50697428959505,"sku":"NGR9781138579729","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50715317567761,"sku":"CIN1138579726G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50991315910929,"sku":"GOR012334152","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52479309316369,"sku":"NLS9781138579729","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52747030954257,"sku":"NIN9781138579729","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138579726.jpg?v=1751334285"},{"product_id":"comprehensive-resource-model-book-lisa-schwarz-9781138916005","title":"The Comprehensive Resource Model","description":"Traditional methods employed in psychotherapy have limited effectiveness when it comes to healing the psychological effects of trauma, in particular, complex trauma. This book provides a theory-based approach to research, teaching, and practicing art therapy, including verbal and arts based techniques, settings, art processes and analyses, and the principles of supervision, evaluation, and research. It also offers an overview and discussion of how the different orientations of psychological and social theories are interpreted and implemented by art therapy. The book provides an integrative perspective that anchors methodology within a rigorous theoretical background. Focusing on three sub-groups of Dynamic, Humanistic and Systemic-social theories, each chapter outlines the central concepts of varying sub-theories within a general heading, and their interpretation from an art therapy perspective. Ephrat Huss explores the respective and shifting roles of art, client, and therapist through each theory, demonstrating the practical implications for creating a coherent intervention that informs all parts of the setting, therapy, client evaluation, and supervision. A Theory-based Approach to Art Therapy draws on the latest research in the field and will be a valuable text for art therapy theorists, educators, students and researchers, as well as for other social practitioners interested in understanding how to integrate the arts into their practice.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49759825494289,"sku":"CIN0415725445VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52435337511185,"sku":"NLS9780415725446","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0415725445.jpg?v=1751006616"},{"product_id":"cultural-foundations-and-interventions-in-latino-a-mental-health-book-hector-y-adames-9780815386377","title":"Cultural Foundations and Interventions in Latino\/a Mental Health","description":"Advancing work to effectively study, understand, and serve the fastest growing U.S. ethnic minority population, this volume explicitly emphasizes the racial and ethnic diversity within this heterogeneous cultural group. However, quality social interaction may be as important for the recovery of those with severe mental illness as are treatments. This volume makes this point while describing the emotionally moving lives of eight individuals with severe mental illness as they exist in the U.S. mental health system. Offering social and psychological insight into their experiences, these stories demonstrate how patients can create meaningful lives in the face of great difficulties. Based on in-depth interviews with clients with severe mental illness, this volume explores which structures of interaction encourage growth for people with severe mental illness, and which trigger psychological damage. It considers the clients’ relationships with friends, family, peers, spouses, lovers, co-workers, mental health professionals, institutions, the community, and the society as a whole. It focuses specifically on how structures of social interaction can promote or harm psychological growth, and how interaction dynamics affect the psychological well-being of individuals with severe mental illness.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50467117891857,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50467119661329,"sku":"CIN041574301XVG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52454355271953,"sku":"NLS9780415743013","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53035002167569,"sku":"NIN9780415743013","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/041574301X.jpg?v=1750697560"},{"product_id":"cultural-foundations-and-interventions-in-latino-a-mental-health-book-hector-y-adames-9781138851535","title":"Cultural Foundations and Interventions in Latino\/a Mental Health","description":"Advancing work to effectively study, understand, and serve the fastest growing U.S. ethnic minority population, this volume explicitly emphasizes the racial and ethnic diversity within this heterogeneous cultural group. Chapters detail the socio-cultural roots of hip-hop and explain how hip-hop inspired practices such as writing lyrics, producing mix tapes and using traditional hip-hop cyphers can offer an effective means of transcending White, western approaches to counseling. The volume foregrounds the needs of racially diverse, marginalized youth, whilst also addressing the role and positioning of the school counselor in using HHSWT. This tendency continues despite powerful evidence from the field of behavioral genetics that genetic endowment dwarfs other discrete influences on development and psychopathology when extrinsic conditions are not extreme. An interdisciplinary collection, the book uses historical, cultural and clinical perspectives to challenge the longstanding notion of identity as the product of a life-narrative. Although the nativist-empiricist debate has been revivified by recent advances in molecular biology, such ideas date back to the Socratic dialogue on the innate mathematical sense possessed by an illiterate slave. The author takes a philosophical and historical approach in revisiting the writings of select figures from science, medicine, and literature whose insights into the potency of inherited factors in behavior were particularly prescient, and ran contrary to the modern declivity toward the self as narrative. The final part of the volume uses historical and clinical perspectives to help illuminate the elusive concept of innateness and highlights important ramifications of the revolution in behavioral genetics. Seeking to challenge the clinical utility of the therapeutic narrative rather than the importance of experience per se, the book will ultimately appeal to psychiatrists, psychologists, and academics from various disciplines working across the fields of behavioral genetics, evolutionary biology, philosophy of science, and the history of science.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50698540581137,"sku":"NGR9781032395807","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51018025304337,"sku":"NIN9781032395807","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52596797047057,"sku":"NLS9781032395807","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/103239580X.jpg?v=1751205580"},{"product_id":"trauma-and-its-impacts-on-temporal-experience-book-selene-mezzalira-9781032137315","title":"Trauma and Its Impacts on Temporal Experience","description":"This unique text develops an original theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between trauma and time by combining phenomenological and psychoanalytical traditions. Moving beyond Western psychoanalytical and phenomenological traditions, this volume presents new perspectives on the assessment and treatment of trauma patients. Powerfully illustrating how the temporal dimension of a patient’s symptoms has until now been overlooked, the text presents a wealth of research literature to deepen our understanding of how trauma disrupts individual temporal experience. Ultimately, the resulting phenomena that occur (including dissociation and cognitive distortions) position time as a transdiagnostic psychological dimension, closely connected to the subject’s sense of self. This text will benefit researchers, academics, and educators with an interest in psychoanalysis, phenomenology, and trauma and dissociation studies more broadly. Using Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, chapters investigate how diets and eating are used as a means to navigate individuals’ complex, unconscious desires and conflicts, and illustrate how diet and advertising industries use this to capitalize on the anxieties of the modern subject. The text’s psychoanalytic approach offers rare insight into the unconscious desires that dictate individuals’ choices around diets and lifestyle. By situating anxiety as the tension between jouissance and desire, the book promotes further understanding of individuals’ subjective and complex relationships with food. Through an understanding of the subject and symptoms from a psychoanalytic perspective, we can begin to think differently about the ways we come to eating and dieting. This book will be useful for scholars and postgraduate students studying Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, consumer psychology, mental health, the sociology of culture, and social and cultural anthropology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51148843811089,"sku":"NIN9781032110417","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52111195242769,"sku":"NGR9781032110417","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52588463358225,"sku":"NLS9781032110417","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032110414.jpg?v=1751048305"},{"product_id":"indigenous-cultures-and-mental-health-counselling-book-suzanne-stewart-9780367196158","title":"Indigenous Cultures and Mental Health Counselling","description":"North America’s Indigenous population is a vulnerable group, with specific psychological and healing needs that are not widely met in the mental health care system. This volume examines ways Indigenous healing practices can complement Western psychological service to meet the needs of Indigenous peoples through traditional cultural concepts. Bringing together leading experts in the fields of Aboriginal mental health and psychology, it provides data and models of Indigenous cultural practices in psychology that are successful with Indigenous peoples. This volume treats respect as a combination of action, attitude and open-mindedness, urging therapists to recognize their own biases and beliefs and be willing to suspend them for the benefit of their clients. The belief that Jinn spirits can cause mental illness in humans through affliction or possession is widely accepted among Muslims, meaning this belief is a crucial, but frequently overlooked, aspect of mental health problems with Muslim patients in psychiatric care. This book explores the nature of such beliefs, their relationship to mental health and the reasons for their importance in clinical practice. The book argues that it is vital to consider mental disorders as a multifactorial affair, in which spiritual, social, psychological and physical factors may all play a role. It suggests differential diagnostic skills may have an important part to play in offering help to those who believe their problems are caused by possession, and provides accessible literature on clinical issues and practice, interventions, management and evidence-based practice to help health workers achieve a better understanding of Muslim beliefs about possession and how to work with patients that hold such beliefs. Evil Eye, Jinn Possession, and Mental Health Issues is an essential manual for mental health professionals, social workers and psychologists. Chapters draw on patient perspectives to demonstrate effective application of interventions to help adolescents work through trauma associated with a diagnosis of cancer, treatment, recovery and the impacts on their development. Outcomes from these studies also include strategies for selecting support group participants, structuring group activities and securing funding. Using this to extend current understandings of resilience, the text posits critical resilience as a response to embedded social inequalities and goes on to offer a nuanced reconceptualization of overcoming such hardship, not only as overcoming adversity but as recognizing strengths despite ongoing injustice. It synthesizes feminist and critical theories to elaborate on the framework of critical resilience and thriving. Lord shares important stories and lessons from two undergraduate and two postgraduate clinical internships as colorful narratives that will augment texts in undergraduate and graduate practicum seminar classes. Narratives about making mistakes, or \"learning the hard way\", include being robbed at gunpoint in Chicago, being stalked by a client, and sexual harassment. Each chapter concludes with a list of reflection, small group discussion, and class discussion questions designed to help the reader more deeply engage with the material on a personal, academic, and professional level. Written for students who are excited to begin their practicum experiences, this book explores how these experiences might be addressed and crucially stresses the importance of remembering that everyone is human and that clients are well-defended and resilient. Stemming from an examination of the definition of countertransference itself, the author utilizes a philosophical hermeneutic approach to ask how pathological countertransference develops, how analysts separate themselves from the patient’s experience, and what analysts should do to prevent their countertransference response from interfering with treatment. Through the unique hermeneutic methodology, philosophical themes within selected writings are explored as a way of gaining a deeper meaning and understanding of countertransference. By re-interpreting these selected writings in a new light, the book develops a transtheoretical definition and approach to countertransference. As such, the author offers a timely reassessment of the meaning and understanding of countertransference as it has evolved over the past century, going from being considered an obstacle to treatment brought on by the analyst’s unconscious conflicts to being understood as a way of communicating and understanding the patient’s unconscious material. It also provides a unique pathway through various depth psychological, therapeutic, and theoretical approaches to countertransference, foregrounding the significance and therapeutic value of the concept and seeking a new transtheoretical definition. Integrating heuristic, hermeneutic, and arts-based grounded theory methodologies, the book conceptualizes and describes the practice of Sonic Stretching as an in-depth example of using sound as an effective and systematic research tool. Stemming from evidence-based insights, the book explores and explains ways in which music and sound can be utilized in arts-based research (ABR) in all disciplines, as opposed to only being used among professional musicians and those operating within music studies. It points to some of the obstacles that have previously prevented this from happening more broadly and, in doing so, aims to help bridge the conspicuous gap in ABR studies, where music and sonic imagination should be. Offering a clear and well-presented example for integrating music and sound into processes of depth psychological inquiry and addressing the impact of colonialization upon embodied knowledge in music and academic research, it will appeal to scholars and researchers working at the intersection of psychology, music studies, education, social justice, and research methods.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51018329063697,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51018331357457,"sku":"NIN9781032503295","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52596888699153,"sku":"NLS9781032503295","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032503297.jpg?v=1750951507"},{"product_id":"pet-loss-grief-and-therapeutic-interventions-book-lori-kogan-9781138585577","title":"Pet Loss, Grief, and Therapeutic Interventions","description":"This book recognizes and legitimizes the significance of pet and animal loss by exploring the various expressions of trauma and grief experienced by those who work with, live with, or own an animal or pet. It considers how we define attachment in an age where changes in technology and the COVID-19 pandemic have increased the prevalence of online contact in the process of diagnosis and psychological treatment. Based on an attachment paradigm that is relatively unexplored, the book outlines how modern online contact influences mental health and development, along with the therapeutic relationship between client and professional. It discusses people’s relationships with new technologies, how relationships can be established using these technologies, and how these technologies affect professional relationships between psychologists and their clients, which they define as e-attachment. In the context of new technologies, the book draws on neurobiology and clinical psychology to consider mental health, social functioning, and emotional regulation. Presenting both theory and examples from case studies, this cutting-edge book will be of great interest to researchers, academics, and post-graduate students in the fields of clinical psychology, psychotherapy, and mental health. Depressive realism is a worldview of human existence that is essentially negative, and which challenges assumptions about the value of life and the institutions claiming to answer life’s problems. Drawing from central observations from various disciplines, this book argues that a radical honesty about human suffering might initiate wholly new ways of thinking, in everyday life and in clinical practice for mental health, as well as in academia. Divided into sections that reflect depressive realism as a worldview spanning all academic disciplines, chapters provide examples from psychology, psychotherapy, philosophy and more to suggest ways in which depressive realism can critique each discipline and academia overall. This book challenges the tacit hegemony of contemporary positive thinking, as well as the standard assumption in cognitive behavioural therapy that depressed individuals must have cognitive distortions. It also appeals to the utility of depressive realism for its insights, its pursuit of truth, as well its emphasis on the importance of learning from negativity and failure. Arguments against depressive realism are also explored. This book makes an important contribution to our understanding of depressive realism within an interdisciplinary context. It will be of key interest to academics, researchers and postgraduates in the fields of psychology, mental health, psychotherapy, history and philosophy. It will also be of great interest to psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51170212315409,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51170214609169,"sku":"NIN9781138823549","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52476408463633,"sku":"NLS9781138823549","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138823546.jpg?v=1751016526"},{"product_id":"indigenous-cultures-and-mental-health-counselling-book-suzanne-stewart-9781138928992","title":"Indigenous Cultures and Mental Health Counselling","description":"North America’s Indigenous population is a vulnerable group, with specific psychological and healing needs that are not widely met in the mental health care system. Traditional methods for teaching communication skills have focused on simulated clinical situations in which students learn how to improve their communication, with actors playing the part of the patients, rather than from live experiences with patients. Psychodynamic psychotherapy, with its emphasis on learning to reflect on experiences, offers the student the possibility of learning from a real experience with a patient. Such opportunities allow students to learn directly about patients’ emotions, as well as to appreciate their own emotional responses to illness and to communicate better with their patients. In this book, Peter Shoenberg, Jessica Yakeley, and their contributors who include students and teachers, discuss two different teaching approaches developed at University College London to help medical students understand the role of emotions in illness, communicate more effectively, and gain a deeper understanding of the doctor patient relationship. The benefits of Ball, Wolff and Tredgold’s Student Psychotherapy Scheme are considered alongside Shoenberg and Suckling’s short term student Balint discussion group scheme to provide clear guidance about how psychotherapeutic understanding can be used to inform medical education, with positive results. At a time when medicine is becoming increasingly technological and there is a growing demand by the public for more psychologically minded doctors, this book will be a key resource for physicians, general practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists and psychotherapists who are involved in medical teaching and for medical students.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51170223423761,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51170225651985,"sku":"NIN9781138189119","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52616510013713,"sku":"NLS9781138189119","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138189111.jpg?v=1751238231"},{"product_id":"families-bereaved-by-alcohol-or-drugs-book-christine-valentine-9781138947085","title":"Families Bereaved by Alcohol or Drugs","description":"Individuals bereaved by the drug- or alcohol-related death of a family member represent a sizeable group worldwide. Families Bereaved by Alcohol or Drugs is the long-awaited result of an important and ambitious research project into the experiences commonly encountered by members of this stigmatized and vulnerable group. Based on focus groups with the practitioners and service personnel who support grieving relatives following the loss of a loved one to alcohol or drugs, as well as interviews with the largest qualitative sample of adults bereaved by substance use that has been reported to date, this much-needed contribution to research on addiction and bereavement identifies four major reasons why grief following this tragic kind of death is particularly difficult. By examining the experiences of a wide range of stakeholders, including practitioners and policymakers in health, social care and the criminal justice system, the research contained within this book underscores the large number of organizations that play a role in the implementation of official procedure following a drug- or alcohol-related death and identifies significant gaps in the system that bereaved individuals must negotiate. Grounded in extensive and rigorous academic research, Families Bereaved by Alcohol or Drugs is essential reading for academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of mental health and addiction, social work and social studies, psychology, family studies and bereavement. The book should also be of interest to anyone with a professional interest in bereavement or substance use.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51170239938833,"sku":"NIN9781138947085","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52664545313041,"sku":"NLS9781138947085","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138947083.jpg?v=1751334534"},{"product_id":"quantitative-and-qualitative-methods-in-psychotherapy-research-book-wolfgang-lutz-9781138190931","title":"Quantitative and Qualitative Methods in Psychotherapy Research","description":"In this collection, international contributors come together to discuss how qualitative and quantitative methods can be used in psychotherapy research. Chapters on quantitative methods cover the development of new findings and the improvement of existing findings, identifying and analysing change, and using meta-analysis. The second half of the book comprises chapters considering how qualitative and mixed methods can be used in psychotherapy research. Chapters on qualitative and mixed methods identify various ways to strengthen the trustworthiness of qualitative findings via rigorous data collection and analysis techniques. Seeking to challenge the clinical utility of the therapeutic narrative rather than the importance of experience per se, the book will ultimately appeal to psychiatrists, psychologists, and academics from various disciplines working across the fields of behavioral genetics, evolutionary biology, philosophy of science, and the history of science.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51215823831313,"sku":"NGR9781032398747","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51233454162193,"sku":"NIN9781032398747","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52589859897617,"sku":"NLS9781032398747","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032398744.jpg?v=1751269104"},{"product_id":"critical-resilience-and-thriving-in-response-to-systemic-oppression-book-melissa-l-morgan-9780367686611","title":"Critical Resilience and Thriving in Response to Systemic Oppression","description":"This book offers new insight into how individuals utilize resilience in the face of structural and social injustice. Using this to extend current understandings of resilience, the text posits critical resilience as a response to embedded social inequalities and goes on to offer a nuanced reconceptualization of overcoming such hardship, not only as overcoming adversity but as recognizing strengths despite ongoing injustice. When research findings from the neurosciences are applied to clinical psychology, reductionist thinking is typically followed, but this creates problems for the clinical practitioner. In this book Tony Schneider draws together the three strands of philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology to explore the mind\/body question as it affects the clinician. Taking a position more closely aligned with dualism, he argues for the utility in making distinctions between brain activity and ‘I’ – the subjective self – both in general psychological functioning and in psychopathology. Schneider considers traditional psychological topics contextualized by neuroscience research and the mind\/body issue, as well as applying the ideas to various areas of clinical practice. Topics include: -the mind and body from the clinician’s perspective -fundamental aspects of the role and mechanics of the brain -the developing self and the relationship of ‘I’ with the self and with others -psychological functioning such as focus and memory, sleep and dreaming, and emotions and pain. The idea that ‘I am not my brain’ will resonate with many clinicians, and is systematically argued for in clinical literature and neuropsychology research here for the first time. The book will be of particular interest to psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and clinicians who wish to incorporate advances in neuroscience research in the conceptualization of their clinical work, and are looking for a working model that allows them to do so.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51225387696401,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51225390579985,"sku":"NIN9780415839129","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52538587119889,"sku":"NLS9780415839129","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0415839122.jpg?v=1750697626"},{"product_id":"frantz-fanon-s-psychotherapeutic-approaches-to-clinical-work-book-lou-turner-9781138611573","title":"Frantz Fanon's Psychotherapeutic Approaches to Clinical Work","description":"Recognizing Frantz Fanon’s remarkable legacy to applied mental health and therapeutic practices which decolonize, humanize, and empower marginalized populations, this text serves as a timely call for research, education, and clinical work to establish and further develop Fanonian approaches and practices. As the first collection to focus on contemporary clinical applications of Fanon’s research and practice, this volume adopts a transnational lens through which to capture the global reach of Fanon’s work. Contributors from Africa, Australia, Europe, and North America offer nuanced insight into historical and theoretical methods, clinical case studies, and community-based innovations to place Fanon’s research and practice in context. Organized into four key areas, including the Historical Significance of Fanon’s Clinical Work; Theory and Fanonian Praxis; Psychotherapeutic and Community Applications; and Action Research, each section of the book reflects an impressive diversity of practices around the world, and considers the role of political and socioeconomic context, structures of gender oppression, racial identities, and their intersection within those practices. A unique manifesto to the ground-breaking and immensely relevant work of Frantz Fanon, this book will be of great interest to graduate and post graduate students, researchers, academics and professionals in counselling psychology, mental health research, and psychotherapy.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51232220250385,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51232221626641,"sku":"NIN9781138611573","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52614428623121,"sku":"NLS9781138611573","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138611573.jpg?v=1751367474"},{"product_id":"towards-a-transtheoretical-definition-of-countertransference-book-rudy-roman-9781032335568","title":"Towards a Transtheoretical Definition of Countertransference","description":"This book explores the analyst’s countertransference experience in clinical settings from a number of theoretical perspectives in order to develop a transtheoretical definition of countertransference. This volume will appeal to scholars and researchers of psychology and mental health.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51235529621777,"sku":"NIN9781032335568","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52594259951889,"sku":"NLS9781032335568","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032335564.jpg?v=1751269001"},{"product_id":"fostering-resilience-before-during-and-after-experiences-of-trauma-book-buuma-maisha-9780367702861","title":"Fostering Resilience Before, During, and After Experiences of Trauma","description":"This edited volume recognizes that resilience, and the most effective means of harnessing it, differ across individuals, contexts and time. Presenting chapters written by a range of scholars and clinicians, the book highlights effective evidence-based approaches to nurturing resilience, before, during and after a traumatic experience or event. By identifying distinct therapeutic tools which can be used effectively to meet the particular needs and limitations associated with different age groups, clients and types of experience, the volume addresses specific challenges and benefits of nurturing resilience and informs best practice as well as self-care. Approaches explored in the volume include the use of group activities to teach resilience to children, the role of sense-making for victims of sex trafficking, and the ways in which identity and spirituality can be used to help young and older adults in the face of pain and bereavement. Chapters also draw on the lived experiences of those who have engaged in a personal or guided journey towards finding new meaning and achieving posttraumatic growth following experiences of trauma. The rich variety of approaches offered here will be of interest to clinicians, counsellors, scholars and researchers involved in the practice and study of building resilience, as well as trauma studies, psychology and mental health more broadly. The personal and practice-based real-life stories in this volume will also resonate with individuals, family and community members facing adversity.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51280825942289,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51280828268817,"sku":"NIN9780367702861","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52481870561553,"sku":"NLS9780367702861","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/036770286X.jpg?v=1751102239"},{"product_id":"e-attachment-and-online-communication-book-katarzyna-sitnik-warchulska-9781032116860","title":"E-attachment and Online Communication","description":"This book examines the use of modern technologies in clinical psychological practice. Those also carrying out research into digital and online learning within the field of mental health will also benefit from this text. Through seven original research studies, it explores a wide range of topics related to sexuality and intimate relationships, including body image and sexual satisfaction, sexual socialization and communication, perceptions of unconventional relationships, the psychological impact of adverse childhood experiences on intimate relationships, family structure’s influence on sexual identity, sexual decision-making among Caribbean youth, and the intersections of mental health, trauma, and intimacy. This book challenges Eurocentric narratives, offering a culturally grounded framework for understanding Afro-Caribbean sexuality. Bridging psychology, sociology, and history, it is essential reading for scholars, researchers, and academics in gender, sexuality, Caribbean studies, and postcolonial mental health.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51598085488913,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51598085652753,"sku":"NGR9781032949239","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52477397762321,"sku":"NLS9781032949239","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53251674702097,"sku":"NIN9781032949239","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032949236.jpg?v=1754489049"},{"product_id":"transdisciplinary-study-of-addiction-book-francisco-blancarte-jaber-9781032950242","title":"A Transdisciplinary Study of Addiction","description":"Using novel, bioethical framing alongside critical and comprehensive analysis of harm reduction approaches, this cutting-edge book addresses the multifaceted and transdisciplinary issue of drug addiction in society, exploring how addiction can be conceptualized from various disciplinary perspectives for positive policy outcomes. The book discusses the philosophical concepts of agency and action within addiction, and how this can support the foundations needed to identify the most effective and ethical harm reduction strategies within policy frameworks. Foregrounding the implications for this notion of agency, chapters trace the evolution of the concept of addiction through the centuries and examine contemporary understandings from neuroscience, philosophy, bioethics, and policy analysis. Comparative, case study analysis is conducted to contrast local, empirically based models for drug policy in the United Kingdom alongside external models based on international treaties, which dictate a top-down approach to drug penalization. Offering a research-based and theoretically informed framework for effective harm reduction strategies and policies, this book will be of interest to scholars, researchers, and postgraduate students in the fields of addiction studies, bioethics, and mental health policy more broadly. Policymakers working in addictions and substance use may also find the book relevant.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51598093844753,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51598093943057,"sku":"NGR9781032950242","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51598094074129,"sku":"NIN9781032950242","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52659761512721,"sku":"NLS9781032950242","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032950242.jpg?v=1751301885"},{"product_id":"desettlering-as-re-subjectification-of-the-settler-subject-book-kathleen-sg-skott-myhre-9781032411132","title":"Desettlering as Re-subjectification of the Settler Subject","description":"This book offers an intervention into the process of decolonization through the re-subjectification of the settler subject. The authors draw on what Deleuze and Guattari call minor threads of philosophy, pedagogy, spirituality, and healing practices rooted in neglected lineages of European thought and ceremony. The book proposes a methodology for unontologizing the settler subject, which they term \"desettlering.\" Rather than fetishizing indigenous theory and practice as a mode for resubjectifying settlers to facilitate land-based decolonization, it offers a fresh approach by looking toward alternative sets of traditions and identities. These alternatives are used to interrogate minoritarian European philosophies, practices, and beliefs, which the authors propose could be deployed to unontologize the settler within current historical conditions. Asserting that such a process is not volitional but a historical necessity, the book offers a novel and timely investigation into who settlers become if they intend to engage seriously in decolonization. It will appeal to an interdisciplinary audience of scholars and researchers in psychological science, social psychology, counseling, philosophy, indigenous studies, and sociology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51599487303953,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51599487631633,"sku":"NGR9781032411132","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52595701678353,"sku":"NLS9781032411132","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032411139.jpg?v=1751238250"},{"product_id":"creative-health-communication-framework-book-jane-hearst-9781032717296","title":"A Creative Health Communication Framework","description":"This groundbreaking volume offers a theoretical, practical, and evidence-based approach to bridging the gap between service-users, -providers, and -commissioners in order to establish Creative Health as a valued part of healthcare, and a key player in the broader healthcare marketplace.
