'85 by Danny Simmons

'85, based on Simmons' widely praised novel Three Days as the Crow Flies, is set in the gritty underworld of NY circa 1985 - a time and a place when street culture and the fine arts scene interpenetrated each other in strange and often predatory ways. As the story begins, Crow, a junky and the son of a dead cop, steals a few canvases to sell. Before he knows it, he's drawn into a surreal dream-land of sex, drugs and cold-blooded commerce. Filled with haunting imagery and authentic, street-smart dialogue, '85 will appeal to lovers of graphic novels and fiction alike.

Danny Simmons owns the Rush Arts Gallery in Manhattan and the Corridor Gallery in Brooklyn, and is a well-known abstract-expressionist oil painter. He chairs the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation with his brother, Russell Simmons, and is a poet and cofounder of the Def Poetry Jam performance series. He is a resident of Brooklyn.
