The first of Wainwright's celebrated guides to the Lakeland Fells appeared in 1955, the last of the seven-volume set was published in 1965. These titles have remained in print, unaltered, since then despite radical changes to the countryside and a phenomenal increase in the numbers of people visiting the area. Robert Abbey is a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and former Professor of Legal Education and Practice at the University of Westminster. He is the former Deputy Adjudicator to HM Land Registry, and former Chief External Examiner in property law and practice for the Solicitor's Regulation Authority.

Mark Richards is a Solicitor and Visiting Lecturer in Law at the University of Westminster. He has previous experience as a partner in a central London solicitors' firm specializing in all aspects of property law.
