Cognitive Psychology is a brand new textbook by Ken Gilhooly, Fiona Lyddy & Frank Pollick. Based on a multidisciplinary approach, the book encourages students to make the connections between cognition, cognitive neuroscience and behaviour. The book provides an up-to-date, accessible introduction to the subject, showing students the relevance of cognitive psychology through a range of examples, applications and international research. Recent work from neuroscience is integrated throughout the book, and coverage is given to rapidly-developing topics, such as emotion and cognition. Cognitive Psychology is designed to provide an accessible and engaging introduction to Cognitive Psychology for 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students. It takes an international approach with an emphasis on research, methodology and application.
Professor Ken Gilhooly is based at the University of Hertfordshire. Having completed undergraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh and postgraduate studies at the University of Stirling, he went on to work at the University of Aberdeen before taking a Chair at Brunel, followed by another at Paisley. Ken then moved to a Chair at Hertfordshire in 2004. He’s served as the Vice-Chair of the Cognitive Section for the BPS and have served on a number of research panels and boards. He is a Fellow of the BPS and was recently elected to the Academy of Social Sciences and to Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts. Dr Fiona Lyddy is a senior lecturer and head of the Department of Psychology at NUI Maynooth. She completed a bachelors degree in Applied Psychology and a PhD in Psychology at University College Cork. She lectured at University College Cork and at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff before joining NUI Maynooth in 2001. She is a chartered psychologist, a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She was founding chair of the Psychological Society of Ireland's Division of Teachers and Researchers in Psychology. Professor Frank Pollick is a professor at the University of Glasgow. He completed his bachelors and masters studies in the USA before studying for a PhD in Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. He was then an invited researcher at the ATR Human Information Processing Research Laboraties, Kyoto, Japan from 1991-1997 before moving to the University of Glasgow.
