Oliver Goldsmith (1731-1774), an Irish-born poet, playwright, essayist, and novelist, was a member of Dr. Samuel Johnson's intellectual circle and was known for his beautiful and vivacious writing style. The Vicar of Wakefield, a pastoral poetry, and The Good-Natur'd Man, a drama, are among his most well-known compositions.
