Born in the US, James Watson won the Nobel Prize for Physiology/ Medicine in 1962 for elucidating the structure and function of DNA, along with the Englishmen Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins. After studying and teaching at Harvard and Cambridge Universities, he has worked at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York State for the last three decades, for most of that time as its director . He is the author of a number of books, including the international bestseller The Double Helix.
