Generally society has been moving towards electronic payment systems since the 1970s, but it is only the arrival of the Internet and its vertiginous growth, that has made possible the recent advances in this area.
Donal O'Mahony is a senior lecturer in computer science at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and the head of a research group specializing in networking, telecommunications, and data security. He also has consulted extensively for private industry and government. Dr. O'Mahony holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Trinity College. Michael Peirce is a research student at Trinity College, where he recently received his Ph.D. in computer science on the topic of multi-party micropayments for mobile communications. Hitesh Tewari is a lecturer in computer science at Trinity College and works as part of the networks and telecommunications research group on projects in network security and mobile communications.
