The Teacher's Book provides an introduction to the course and how to work with it as well as detailed notes on each Student's Book unit. It also includes photocopiable learner-training activities designed to improve the effectiveness of students' learning and encourage learner-autonomy, plus 30 extra photocopiable class activities.

Dr Simon Sweeney is Senior Lecturer in International Political Economy in York Management School at the University of York. He is also Director of Postgraduate Programmes responsible for seven taught masters degrees. He is an experienced writer, author of Europe, the State and Globalisation (Longman, 2005). He is a regular paper contributor on the EU studies conference circuit, where during his doctoral studies he tested doctoral research material at EUSA, UACES, BISA and PSA conferences, among others. He has been a prominent contributor to the UACES CRN on CSDP and Strategy presenting various papers at conferences and workshops. His (part-time) PhD registration in the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds concluded with a PhD award in 2015. The thesis title was 'Explaining the European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP): Power, Bureaucratic Politics and Grand Strategy'. He has an extensive knowledge of EU literature, comprising EU history and development, institutional characteristics, policy-making, including foreign and security interests. He has twenty years experience of teaching EU and European politics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
