Jitterbug Jam by Barbara Jean Hicks
There is a boy under Bobo's bed. A scary boy with pink skin and orange fur on top of his head, and, worst of all, eyes the awful colour the sky is when you wake up in the middle of day. So next bedtime, Bobo crawls under the kitchen cabinet and decides he's not going to bed, not now, not ever. But then Boo-Dad comes. And Boo-Dad, the biggest, baddest grandpa ever, has the answer to Bobo's problem, if only Bobo can be brave enough to give it a try. Very soon in the story you realize that things are not quite the way you thought they were; and that who is who's monster is open to question.
"Contains the sort of skill and imagination that most illustrators can only dream about" -- Nicolette Jones The Sunday Times "Alexis Deacon is one of the finest of a younger generation of English illustrators for children.. His horned monsters seem distantly related to Maurice Sendak's wild things" The Economist "The eerie, surreal world is matched perfectly with exquisite slightly old-fashioned illustrations. And, despite all the scares, this is a warm uplifting tale of a kinship against the odds" Junior "Cute and endearing without being at all cloying or sentimental, this book is another bulls-eye for Deacon" -- Ted Dewan Times Educational Supplement "A rich treat indeed" -- Jack Ousbey Carousel
