The second edition includes the following features: the bootstrap method is introduced as a tool and integrated with general inferential procedures; Monte Carlo methods are also introduced - some are relatively simple and reinforce calculations, others concern bootstrap and Monte Carlo methods and theoretical material on survey sampling; a number are based on data sets and involve the use of the computer; and the number of examples has been augmented significantly, giving the book more depth of coverage. New examples include interesting applications, such as probability of AIDS infection, state lotteries and polygraph testing. Also, more graphical displays have been added.

Rice, John Andrew: - John Andrew Rice, (1888�1968), born at Tanglewood Plantation near Lynchburg, South Carolina, was an early Rhodes scholar and the visionary founder of Black Mountain College, a progressive institution that attracted pioneering artists and intellectuals from Europe and United States from its opening in 1933 to its closing in 1957.
