The authors address in a unified manner both safety (physical safety of operating equipment and devices) and computer security (correct and sound information), which are traditionally separate topics, practiced by very different people.

  • Offers readers a unified view of safety and security, from basic concepts through research challenges;
  • Provides a detailed comparison of safety and security methodologies;
  • Describes a comprehensive threat model including attacks, design errors, and faults;
  • Identifies important commonalities and differences in safety and security engineering.

William Zinsser is author of the best-selling On Writing Well and fifteen other books. He has been a writer, columnist, critic, and editor at leading newspapers and magazines as well as general editor of the Book-of-the-Month Club. During the 1970s he was master of Branford College at Yale University, where he taught nonfiction writing and where he first met Willie Ruff. On the faculty of the New School University in New York City, Mr. Zinsser is a part-time jazz pianist and a student of Dwike Mitchell.
