Oxford English Now Student Book 1
Summary
The feel-good place to buy books

Oxford English Now Student Book 1 by Judith Kneen
Each Students' Book contains a variety of text types and topics of high interest to KS3 students. Each topic is approached through a variety of text types (as in KS3 National Tests) which may include reports, instructions, recounts, extracts from novels, playscripts and poetry. These text types are explored through topics which have strong cross-curricular links, and will appeal to both boys and girls, e.g. Space, Natural Disasters, Extreme Sports, The Black Death.
There's a wide variety of activities, the extracts/examples included are short and appropriate with some quite demanding stuff being handled in an accessible wayI think I would be able to use it immediately as it all seems straightforward. I think there is a good mix of fun tasks and challenging, skills-based activities. I especially like the attention to adult language and I feel this is a really good melding of short word count and appropriate language. Also, I like the attention to explicit terms for literary and linguistic devices. Visually striking. Lots to interest pupils. Just right. Engaging, clear, not distracting. Bright, colourful - will keep motivation. I like this objective format very much. Very clear about what is expected in terms of learning outcome.
