Alex Martelli worked at IBM Research for eight years and received three Exceptional Technical Achievement Awards. After then, he worked with think3 inc for 13 years, designing libraries, network protocols, GUI engines, event frameworks, and web access frontends. He's also lectured on programming languages, development processes, and numerical computing at Ferrara University and other institutions. He's a member of the Python Software Foundation and a C++ MVP for Brainbench. He currently telecommutes from his home in Bologna, Italy, for AB Strakt, a Python-centered software firm in Göteborg, Sweden. The articles that appeared in Bridge World (January/February 2000) were lauded as significant steps toward solving challenges that had plagued contract bridge theoreticians for decades, and they were Alex's proudest achievement.
