Selected Poems by Miodrag Pavlovic
A generous selection of work by Miodrag Pavlovic. He is the third of the Serbian triumvirate of Popa, Lalic and Pavlovic which transformed Serb poetry in the 1950s. Pavlovic has been translated and published in English in book form and in pamphlets in Canada, but never before in from a British publisher. Nenad Aleksic and James Sutherland-Smith provide these astonishing new translations taken from Iskon the first volume of Pavlovic's selected poems, produced under Miodrag's supervision.
Miodrag Pavlović was born in 1928. He graduated from the University of Belgrade with a degree in medicine in year 1954. His first volume of poetry, 87 Poems appeared in 1952, the year the Yugoslav authorities, responding to a public address by the Croatian writer Miroslav Krleža, allowed more freedom of expression in politics and the arts. In 1960 Pavlović was appointed director of drama at the National Theatre in Belgrade. He also worked for twenty years as editor for the leading publishing house of Prosveta. He died in 2014.
