Anna Botsford Comstock (1854-1930) was an American painter, educator, conservationist, and pioneer in the field of nature studies. She became a member of the New York State Committee for the Promotion of Agriculture in 1895. She created and conducted an experimental nature study programme for public schools while in this post. She taught nature study at Cornell University from 1897 to 1922, when she retired as a Professor. Comstock wrote and illustrated many books, including Ways of the Six-Footed (1903), How to Maintain Bees (1905), The Handbook of Nature Study (1911), The Pet Book (1914), and Trees at Leisure (1916), and edited the Nature-Study Review from 1917 to 1923.

The League of Women Voters named Anna Botsford Comstock as one of the twelve finest living American women who have done the most to the betterment of the world in their respective disciplines in 1923. She was inducted into the Conservation Hall of Fame of the National Wildlife Federation in 1988.
