Between 1904 and 1940, Peter B.Kyne (1880-1957) was an American novelist. Many of his works, particularly his debut novel, The Three Godfathers, which was released in 1913 and proved to be a major hit, were adapted into screenplays beginning in the silent era. Between 1914 and 1952, he appeared in 110 films. He lied about his age and enlisted in Company L, 14th U.S. Infantry while still under the age of 18. From 1898 to 1899, the infantry served in the Philippines.
Many of Kyne's later works were set against the backdrop of the Spanish-American War and General Emilio Aguinaldo's subsequent insurgency. He was a commander in Battery A of the 144th Field Artillery, also known as the California Grizzlies, during World War I. He was born in San Francisco and died there.
