Troublemaker by Harry Wu

Since being released from Chinese labour camps in 1976, Harry Wu has worked tirelessly to bring China's human rights abuses to international attention. He returned to China in the early 1990's under a new name, and uncovered far worse. Filming secretly for the BBC and CBS within Chinese borders, he documented abuses that were widespread, systematic, and sanctioned by the prison authorities, causing the Chinese authorities to denounce him as their 'no. 1 Troublemaker'. Wu not only documents the brutality and scale of the Chinese penal syhstem, but also tells of the risks he took in returning to China in 1995, and relates the extraordinary story of his imprisonment and eventual release.
Harry Wu grew up in a wealthy Shanghai family and studied to be a geologist. In 1985 he emigrated to the United States, and now lives in California with his wife and parents.
