Rückert wurde am 16.5.1788 in Schweinfurt geboren. Er besuchte das Gymnasium in Schweinfurt und studierte ab 1805 Jura und Philologie in Würzburg und Heidelberg, wo er 1811 habilitierte. Er hielt Vorlesungen über griechische und orientalische Mythologie, wurde dann Gymnasiallehrer und Privatgelehrter. Er arbeitete auch als Redakteur in Stuttgart und Coburg. 1826 wurde er Professor der orientalischen Sprachen in Erlangen; er erhielt auch eine Professur in Berlin. 1848 zog er auf das Gut seiner Frau. Rückert starb am 31.1.1866 in Neuseß bei Coburg.
