Zippy: Type 'Z' Personality by Bill Griffith
Bill Griffith's Zippy the Pinhead is a pop culture icon. The Pinhead is one of the most recognisable figures on the newspaper page, seen by tens of millions of people a day. In this collection of daily and Sunday strips, Zippy dabbles in haiku, visits the malls of Australia, talks to Albert Einstein, lampoons manga and goes into a deep trance while bowling. Zippy also reveals his identity as |Z-Man|, a spandex-clad superhero whose sole superpower (aside from flying) is the amazing ability to disrupt linear thought within a five miles radius!
Bill Griffith grew up in a small town in Southeast Louisiana. It was a quiet, peaceful place back then. It is now bursting at the seams. (The demise of Rural is Over Development and Poor Planning in the Parish.) The author is an avid fisherman and has enjoyed hunting the marsh and the drier, northern uplands of Louisiana all his life. He was inspired to write Spud's Experimental Year, and the two sequels that follow by a friend, a retired NFL Defensive End who related to him all sorts of stories. Through his friend he met an NFL Scout, an Agent, and other Pro Players who provided a wealth of information and entertainment. Research for the three books was an enjoyable experience in itself. He will always be thankful for the fellowship and the encouragement to write he got from these friends. The author has written over a hundred short stories, numerous scientific papers, and a thesis for a Masters Degree in Biology.
