After graduating from Bowdoin Colleg e in 1973, he began his career in journalism at Th e Berkshire Eagle, and in the years since he has w ritten for numerous publications, including New Yo rk, Life, and Vanity Fair magazines. He lives with his wife and two daughters in northwestern Connec ticut.
