Bible: New Revised Standard Version, Revised English Bible, New American Bible, New Jerusalem Bible with the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical Books by Oxford University Press
The Complete Parallel Bible includes the complete texts of the Old and New Testaments and Apocrypha from four of the most popular contemporary versions of the Bible: The New Revised Standard Version, The Revised English Bible, The New American Bible, and The New Jerusalem Bible. The texts are arranged in direct parallel format allowing for some variation where the texts do not immediately coincide. The footnoting from the four versions is retained at the bottom of the relevant column. This volume has several uses: It is a valuable tool in suggesting the possible range of meanings in a given text, especially when the nuances of the original language are not easily conveyed. It allows the reader to select the most accessible translation of any one passage which is invaluable for liturgical and classroom use. The use of parallel texts indicates where a consensus on translation has been reached, and also highlights areas where further research continues, and where reference to commentaries may be appropriate. It allows the reader access to translations other than that which they might normally use. It allows comparison between the literal approach to translation (NRSV and NAB), and the literary style (REB and NJB). The four versions also allow comparison of the most significant ecumenical versions, and those which come initially from a Roman Catholic background.
