Summary
When Sir Robert Carey arrives in Carlisle in the summer of 1592 to take up his appointment as Deputy Warden of the West March, he is surprised to find himself the only law-enforcer in the Western Borders. As second-in-command to his weak brother-in-law, he is left with untrustworthy subordinates.
