While most social science research is interesting and important, a fair amount of social science research is thinly disguised advocacy research in which conclusions too often precede inquiries. The primary topics are those that the journal Nature described as Taboo. In order of the degree of censure, the topics are: race, sex differences, intelligence, and violence. The only way to examine these topics with the social science seal of approval attached is through a strictly environmental lens. To bring biological factors to bear on them is politically incorrect and can bring the wrath of the academy down on one's head. Although many researchers successfully bring biology into their research on these issues, they are said to risk career and reputation for doing so. Speech codes stifling free intellectual exchange pervade the ivory tower, and an overwhelmingly liberal faculty hell-bent on eliminating any vestiges of opposition to their ideology. This is unconscionable in an institution that is supposed to value free exchange of all ideas and opinions.
The current state of academic social science is examined before entering the substantive realm to try to explore how the topics I explore have become protected from any claims of naturalness. Because the left rejects the idea of human nature, it insists that these things are products of social learning and/or social construction and are entirely fluid. To maintain this position in light of the huge and exponential successes of the natural sciences, the left embraces such frames of reasoning as postmodernism, radical relativism, multiculturalism, and political correctness, all of which are examined in this book. Also discussed are human nature, whiteness studies, political temperaments, various criminal justice issues, and capitalism versus socialism.

This volume of Review of Marketing Research (RMR) focuses on Shopper Marketing and the Role of In-Store Marketing. The chapters draw from academic research as well as collaborations with major retailers and industry practitioners. Over the past several decades there has been research into how marketing actions influence how shoppers respond to offers. Yet, with the ever-shifting landscape due to influences such as mobile devices, the internet, and social media, there is an increasing need to understand how marketing actions influence shoppers in their path to purchase. Although there are many path to purchase points which are important to understand, this edition of RMR is devoted to the topic of in-store marketing actions to understand their impact on shopper reactions to offers. The chapters highlight new technologies (e.g., mobile, digital displays) and information aids (e.g., nutrition scores, floor signage) being used by leading retailers to influence the path to purchase. In addition, new research technologies (e.g., eye-tracking, heat maps, in-store experiments) and models that are being used to assess the effectiveness of the path to purchase tactics are discussed.
Review of Marketing Research pushes the boundaries of marketing—broadening the marketing concept to make the world a better place. A diverse selection of international authors contribute to our understanding of the implications of disruptions for global marketing strategy, based on their impact on firms, markets, consumers, and policy makers. They address the range of disruptions across four categories: anti-globalisation and nationalistic sentiments; trade wars; climate change; and digital platforms and payment technologies. The convergence of these disruptions has fundamentally altered the dynamics of international marketing, necessitating a paradigm shift in how firms approach global market expansion and consumer engagement. Agility and adaptability emerge as indispensable attributes for marketers seeking to navigate the complexities of the global marketplace. By embracing innovation, sustainability, and a nuanced understanding of local contexts, firms can position themselves to thrive amidst disruption and seize opportunities for growth in an increasingly turbulent global landscape.
Edited by Naresh K. This perspective is now known as service-dominant (S-D) logic. Subsequent S-D logic work has suggested that value is not only always co-created; it also requires the integration of resources from multiple sources and thus is contextually contingent, since each instance of value creation involves the availability, integration, and use of a different combination of resources. This repositioning of value, from a static concept of something embedded in the output of a producer to be consumed, to a dynamic concept of a co-created outcome in ever-changing, networked systems, can be seen throughout the manuscripts in this volume.
Establishing, expanding and leveraging brand meaning is critically important yet exceedingly complex. A group of papers lend insight into the myriad entities involved in the meaning making process itself, such as marketers, celebrities, brand users, and the broader culture in which consumers live. A second set emphasizes the critical impact that brand meaning has on consumers and brands themselves-outcomes that include brand identification and attachment, social relationship management, and brand evangelism. The final set addresses when and how brand transgressions can threaten these outcomes, and what brands must do to recover from lost or tainted meanings. Rather than the correlational and superficial view provided from the overflow of numerical data, qualitative and conceptual data help to make sense of what is really going on among consumers. Numerical approaches are a useful first cut at detecting changes in market patterns, but they fail to help understand the underlying and deeper meanings of these data among individual consumers, families, and consumption communities. By gathering data from observation (first hand and automated), depth interviews, projective measures, netnography, videography, qualitative marketing and consumer research help put flesh on the bones of often sterile quantitative data. This volume provides a good illustration of the sorts of insights that qualitative and conceptual analysis can provide. Using some of the latest qualitative research tools, this volume highlights insights about consumption ranging from how consumers process advertising messages, how skiers consume a ski resort, and how small retailers can combat the practice of showrooming by consumers comparing online prices with mobile devices to the nature of consumer presence, rethinking the meanings of prices, and buying counterfeit luxuries with friends. These and other practices provide eye-opening insights of their own. But they also spark the imagination by demonstrating what qualitative research can do and why it is an increasingly popular set of techniques.
Contains articles by the marketing field's researchers and scholars. Consisting of nine essays authored by some of the world's leading marketing scholars, this volume of Review of Marketing Research is forward-looking and illuminating. The book considers the nature and consequences of a number of important new digital technologies and practices, including human-machine communication, software, mobile marketing, online reviews, big data, 3D printing and a wide range of other digital innovations. Many of these technological developments were completely unanticipated and as such the transformation is still unfolding. Therefore, whilst consumers have largely embraced and actively co-create many of these new innovations, there are also growing concerns about privacy and other adverse effects of digital technology. Each essay provides a thoughtful examination of this rapidly shifting landscape and offers a set of bold ideas regarding its future impact on the foundations of marketing and consumption. The volume is essential reading for both scholars and managers seeking fresh insights into marketing and offers a number of exciting new concepts, propositions and predictions about marketing in the digital world.
Innovation is the process of value creation through use of relevant knowledge, capabilities and resources for conversion of ideas into new products, processes and practices, and improvements in existing products, processes and practices.
